BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN is announced, not yet available to play: Steam lists its release date as “To be announced,” while the US PlayStation Store says it is to be determined. If you want something in the meantime, BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH is the closest released match for first-person psychological horror in a Japanese setting. For school-romance horror, try Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!; for fractured reality or Japanese folklore, choose DON’T LIE or LOW.

What kind of game is BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN?

MIKI-CHAN follows Kazuaki, a Japanese student studying for the Teidai entrance exam and hoping to win over the girl he loves. After finding a USB drive with a study-support program, he meets Miki-chan, a virtual assistant who initially seems reassuring but becomes jealous and possessive. Kazuaki can use a tool called the Rewriter to alter reality. The announced game is described as a single-player, first-person psychological horror experience. Steam’s listing does not give a launch date, and the US PlayStation Store listing likewise leaves the date undetermined.

That combination makes for a particular kind of comparison: some games below share the first-person horror format, others match the school-romance or psychological themes, and some are closer in setting than premise. None should be treated as a substitute with the same story or mechanics.

Best games to play while waiting

1. BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH — closest match for first-person Japanese psychological horror

Released April 24, 2025, DON’T WATCH is the strongest fit if what appeals to you is first-person horror set in Japan. It follows Shinji, a hikikomori living in a Tokyo apartment, as a malevolent entity haunts him. Its focus on isolation and anxiety differs from MIKI-CHAN’s student romance and possessive virtual assistant, but it shares the first-person viewpoint and psychological-horror emphasis. See the Steam listing.

The developer warns that the game addresses social isolation, psychological distress, and mental-health struggles.

2. BrokenLore: DON’T LIE — for fractured reality and trauma

DON’T LIE, released September 10, 2026, is described as Japanese psychological horror about trauma, isolation, and fractured reality. Steam says it can be played as a standalone BrokenLore story, so you do not need to begin with another entry. Its reality-distortion angle makes it a good thematic choice if the Rewriter concept interests you; official descriptions do not establish a school setting or virtual-assistant story like MIKI-CHAN. See the Steam listing.

3. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! — for school-romance horror

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is the clearest thematic match for a school setting and romance that turns unsettling. It is a psychological-horror visual novel: you join a literature club, write poems, and make choices in a dating-sim-style setup as the horror surfaces. The format is very different from first-person exploration, so choose it for the relationship and school themes rather than similar gameplay. The developer’s content warning includes self-harm and suicide. See the Steam listing.

4. BrokenLore: LOW — for Japanese folklore and supernatural atmosphere

Released February 20, 2025, LOW takes place in a Japanese village and draws on the Gashadokuro yokai. Steam lists first-person, stealth, investigation, and psychological-horror tags. It is a stronger choice for Japanese supernatural atmosphere than for MIKI-CHAN’s high-school and virtual-assistant premise. See the Steam listing.

Other BrokenLore games to consider

The developer’s franchise page also describes UNFOLLOW as psychological horror exploring social media and mental health, FOLLOW as a first-person story about bullying and self-acceptance, ASCEND as first-person horror involving climbing and stealth, and DARK DAWN as a first-person story about abduction and warped reality. Those are reasonable next stops if you want to explore the series, though the official descriptions provide less specific overlap with MIKI-CHAN than the four recommendations above.
