1. Keep your old phone until the transfer is checked
Back up your old phone using the method you normally trust, and keep it available until you have confirmed your data arrived and you can sign in to your important accounts. Samsung Smart Switch can transfer a broad range of information, including call history, accessibility settings, passwords and passkeys, and eSIM information. What transfers and how an eSIM is activated can depend on the device and carrier, so verify those items rather than assuming the migration is complete.

Move data from an iPhone
Samsung says iPhone users can start a wireless transfer by scanning a QR code on the current device, without downloading an additional app. Follow the transfer prompts on both phones, then check the Fold8 Ultra for the information and account access you need.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi and install the update offered for your model
Once initial setup and migration are complete, open Settings and check for a software update. Install the update offered for your device, then check again later if your carrier stages updates separately. Samsung’s update page for model SM-F976B listed Android 17 with a build released October 6, 2026, and an October 5, 2026 security patch. That listing is specific to that model and may not match the release timing or software offered by other model codes, countries, or service providers. 3. Secure the phone and review what appears on the lock screen
Choose a strong screen lock and set up biometrics if you want to use them. Enable the device-finding and backup services you prefer, and decide whether notification content should appear on the lock screen. Labels and available options can vary with software version and region, so use the settings shown on your own phone rather than relying on a universal menu path.
4. Give each display a job
The Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch cover screen and an 8-inch main display, according to Samsung’s US product page. Set up the cover screen for quick checks and everyday interactions, then unfold the phone when the larger canvas is useful for reading, multitasking, or watching video.

Samsung’s US page lists 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB storage variants and states that the Fold8 Ultra does not support a microSD card. Check which capacity you bought, then choose photo and video backup settings that fit your storage and data plan. If you record a lot of video or keep large files offline, review your available space before setting cloud sync to upload everything automatically.

6. Choose accessories for the exact Fold8 Ultra
Samsung explicitly says the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra does not support S Pen; do not buy an S Pen expecting it to work with this model. If you want a case, verify that it is made for the Fold8 Ultra and that its design clears the hinge. Samsung lists 45 W fast charging, but box contents can vary; inspect your package before buying a charger. Confirm that any USB-C charger you use is compatible with the phone and your region.
7. Understand the water-resistance limit
Samsung lists an IP48 rating and describes protection against accidental spills and everyday mishaps. Its regional product guidance specifies controlled freshwater submersion conditions and warns against beach or pool use. 8. Check regional offers and coverage before relying on them
Warranty terms and optional protection plans depend on your country and purchase. Samsung’s August 6, 2026 launch announcement described a three-month promotion for qualifying Samsung.com purchases, but that launch offer may have expired or may not apply in your region.
