Choose the Fold8 if you will use its larger screen
The Fold8’s 7.6-inch inner display is the main reason to choose it. Samsung presents the wider, 4:3-oriented canvas as suited to media and multitasking. Samsung’s Fold8 specifications
- Reading and viewing: A broader unfolded display gives more space for articles, documents and video than the Flip8’s 6.9-inch main screen.

- Trade-off: You carry a book-style device even when you are not using its inner screen, and the reported U.S. launch price is substantially higher than the Flip8’s.
Choose the Flip8 if compact carry matters more

- Carrying: Samsung Gulf lists the Flip8 at 180 g and 6.1 mm thick, compared with the Fold8’s 201 g. These are Samsung-published figures, and the Flip8 weight and thickness are from a regional Samsung page.
- Quick tasks: The cover display is smaller than the Fold8’s, so consider whether it suits your routine for brief checks and interactions while the phone stays folded.
- Trade-off: You give up the Fold8’s larger inner canvas and its reported three-app-on-screen use case.
What should camera and battery buyers consider?
Camera evidence is not a matched comparison
Tom’s Guide describes the Fold8’s rear system as dual 50MP and notes that it has no telephoto camera. That is relevant if zoom capability matters to you, but the available reporting does not establish a like-for-like camera comparison against the Flip8. Tom’s Guide’s Fold8 camera coverage Samsung also sells a Fold8 Ultra; it is a separate model, not another name for the Fold8.
Battery figures are reviewer-specific
Tom’s Guide measured 12 hours 19 minutes in its 5G web-surfing battery test and 70% charge after 30 minutes for the Fold8. Those are results under that reviewer’s test method, not guarantees of everyday battery life. Consider dust exposure and charging details
Tom’s Guide reports that the Fold8 retains an IP48 rating and interprets it as water resistant but not dust resistant. Do not treat that as protection for use around sand or dust; check the specification for your regional model before relying on a rating. How to make the buying decision
- Start with your usual phone routine. If you often read, watch, compare documents or keep apps visible on one screen, favor the Fold8. If you want a phone that folds down smaller and rely on quick outer-screen interactions, favor the Flip8.
- Check the folded carry against your priorities. The Fold8’s published dimensions and weight are listed above; Samsung Gulf publishes the Flip8’s weight and thickness. If pocketability is decisive, confirm the local model’s full dimensions and try it in person where possible.
- Compare the exact local configuration and total price. The reported U.S. launch prices distinguish storage tiers for the Fold8 but list only its 12GB/256GB starting price for the Flip8. They are not current prices or a guide to other markets. Check your regional listing for storage, promotions and terms.
- Let specific camera needs break a tie. The Fold8 lacks a telephoto camera according to Tom’s Guide, and the cited coverage does not provide a matched camera test against the Flip8. If telephoto capability is essential, compare the full camera specifications of the exact models available in your market before buying.
Which Samsung foldable should you buy?
Buy the Galaxy Z Fold8 if the larger inner screen will be useful often enough to justify carrying a larger book-style phone and paying its higher reported U.S. launch price. Buy the Galaxy Z Flip8 if a compact folded shape and quick cover-screen use matter more than tablet-like screen space. Before purchasing, confirm local stock, storage configuration and current pricing with Samsung or a retailer.
