Choose a gaming desk by measuring your equipment and room, then checking usable surface area, height, legroom, storage, and cable routing. A gaming label or large advertised footprint does not guarantee that a desk will fit your monitor, chair, peripherals, or space.
Measure your setup before choosing a desk
Start with the equipment that needs to fit: monitor or monitors and their stands or arms, keyboard, mouse, speakers, controllers, PC, and any work or streaming gear. Allow clear space for moving the mouse and placing your hands comfortably. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says a workstation surface should accommodate the monitor, keyboard, and input device; Lenovo notes that multi-monitor suitability depends on desk width, depth, and structure.

Measure the usable flat area, not just the desk’s outside dimensions. A frame, raised shelf, rear lip, or storage unit can reduce the space available for equipment. If you plan to use a monitor arm, check whether the edge and frame leave room for its clamp.

Check width, depth, and monitor position
Width determines whether your screens and peripherals fit side by side. Depth affects both viewing distance and how much room remains in front of the monitor for the keyboard and mouse. OSHA’s computer workstation purchasing checklist recommends a desk deep enough to place the monitor at least 20 inches from the user’s eyes. This is checklist guidance, not a universal ideal viewing distance for every display or person.

IKEA UAE suggests a desk at least 100 cm wide and 60 cm deep as general sizing guidance. These are retailer recommendations, not ergonomic requirements or a guarantee that a particular setup will fit. Compare them with your equipment measurements and the space available in your room.
Match desk height and clearance to your body
The desk needs to work with your chair and posture, not just your equipment. OSHA recommends positioning the keyboard around elbow height. Its purchasing checklist gives a seated keyboard-height range of 22 to 30 inches and a standing range of 36 to 46.5 inches, and says seated/standing adjustability is desirable. These are workstation recommendations, not gaming-desk product standards.
An adjustable-height desk can help if you switch between sitting and standing, provided its range suits you and it remains stable with your equipment at the heights you use. Check cable slack before raising or lowering it. If choosing a fixed-height desk, a keyboard tray may help achieve a more comfortable typing position; make sure it is wide and deep enough for both keyboard and mouse.

Check the space beneath the desktop as carefully as the top. OSHA lists minimum under-desk clearance depths of 17.6 inches for knees and 24 inches for feet, along with width guidance. IKEA UAE gives general legroom guidance of about 60 cm wide by 45 cm deep. Use these as reference points, then verify the actual frame, drawers, and your seated position: legs, feet, and a chair should not be forced around supports or storage.
For comfort, keep the keyboard and mouse close enough to avoid reaching, and check that the desk edge does not press uncomfortably against your arms. OSHA prefers rounded or sloping leading edges and a matte work surface to help minimize glare.
Choose storage that preserves working space
Decide what must stay within reach and what can be put away. Drawers can hold stationery or documents, while shelves and side racks can keep frequently used items accessible. Lenovo describes shelves, side racks, and drawers as possible gaming-desk features; they are options, not necessities.

Check where storage sits and whether it blocks legroom, chair movement, or equipment placement. A useful storage feature should organize items without taking away the clear surface needed for your monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Plan cable routing and desk movement
Look for cable access holes or grommets, channels, and under-desk trays that suit the power and data leads in your setup. These can keep wires off the desktop and reduce the chance of cables becoming trip hazards or being damaged accidentally. With a sit-stand desk, leave enough slack for the full height range and route cables so they cannot snag as the desk moves.
If a desk lacks built-in routing, cable clips or a separate tray may help. Before buying an add-on, check how it mounts and whether the desk frame leaves enough clearance. Do not assume that a feature described as cable management will fit every cable arrangement.
