First pin down what “flipping” means: waking unexpectedly, rotating the picture, switching between the cover and main displays, or showing flicker or another image fault. Those symptoms point to different checks. If the cover screen wakes in a pocket or bag, start by turning off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake; if it switches displays or malfunctions while the phone is stationary, do not assume it is a normal hinge behavior.
Identify when the screen changes
Notice exactly what happens and when: does the cover screen light in a pocket, rotate after you turn the phone, switch to the main display as you fold or unfold it, flicker, or fail to wake? Also note whether the behavior occurs only when the phone is being handled or while it is lying still. That distinction helps separate accidental waking from a possible display or transition problem.

If the cover screen wakes unexpectedly
Turn off waking gestures
Samsung identifies Lift to wake and Double tap to wake as settings that can cause a Galaxy phone to wake in a pocket or bag. Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures, then turn off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake. The exact setting names or their availability may differ by software version and model. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance covers these gestures.

If the phone still responds to contact in storage, open Settings > Display, turn off Touch sensitivity, and enable Accidental touch protection, if those options are available. Samsung cautions that accidental-touch protection does not guarantee the screen will remain dark: movement or contact may still make it light briefly. Keep a secure screen lock so an unintended wake does not provide access to the phone. Samsung explains the protection’s limits and related precautions.

Consider a covered case only for storage contact
A compatible flip or wallet-style case may help block accidental contact while the phone is stored. Treat it as an optional mitigation, not a repair or a diagnosis. Confirm that any case fits the exact Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra model and does not interfere with normal use; no specific case model is established here.
If the phone switches between displays while folding
Samsung describes the front screen on its foldables as a usable display and documents app continuity when the phone is closed. Its current US foldable instructions list Fold6 and Fold7 in the displayed model coverage, so their detailed steps should not be treated as specifically verified for the Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung Korea’s service guidance lists Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra among models using its Flex hinge and describes slight movement in certain flexed or fully open positions. That guidance does not say repeated screen switching, flickering, or failure to wake is normal. Ordinary hinge movement is not a reason to dismiss a persistent display symptom. Samsung Korea’s hinge guidance is specific to its described models and positions.

Ask Samsung for model-specific help if the cover screen switches unexpectedly while the phone is stationary, repeatedly flickers, fails to wake, or continues behaving abnormally after the low-risk settings checks. Describe what the screen does, whether it happens during folding or while still, and which settings you changed. The available general guidance does not establish a cause for this exact complaint.

If the main-screen protector has been removed or replaced, Samsung warns that removing the original foldable main-display film or using a non-original film can cause touch problems or damage, and recommends help from a service center for replacement.
