A separate carrier plan is needed only if you want an LTE-capable watch to connect to cellular service. The watch must be the LTE model; a Bluetooth-only model cannot gain LTE by adding a plan.
What you pay for: the watch and cellular service
Buying an LTE Galaxy Watch and activating cellular service are separate decisions. The LTE model can connect to a carrier network after activation, while the Bluetooth model relies on its Bluetooth connection to a nearby phone and cannot be activated for LTE service. Samsung describes LTE eligibility and carrier activation in its Galaxy Watch LTE activation guidance.

So an LTE watch does not automatically mean you have an active cellular plan, and owning one does not require you to subscribe. If you do not activate a plan, you can still use the watch with a paired phone and supported connections; you simply will not have cellular service on the watch itself.

When an LTE plan is useful
Cellular service is useful when you want to make calls, send messages, or stay connected on the watch while away from your phone and without relying on Wi-Fi. If your phone is usually with you, or you are comfortable using the watch over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi when available, you may not need to pay a recurring carrier charge.

Before choosing LTE, weigh the added hardware cost against how often you expect to use phone-independent connectivity. Also confirm that the carrier you use supports the exact watch model in your country or region.
How much does Galaxy Watch LTE service cost?
There is no single universal Galaxy Watch LTE plan price. Samsung says plan details and activation steps vary by carrier, and the available information does not establish a current monthly fee for any particular carrier or country. Check with the carrier serving your location for its current smartwatch plan price, eligibility rules, and activation terms.

- Unlocked for all major carriers
The watch’s purchase price is separate from that recurring service charge. For example, Samsung US listings showed the following prices when observed; they are time-sensitive listing prices, not guaranteed current prices or a universal LTE surcharge:
| Samsung US listing | Bluetooth price shown | LTE price shown |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch8, 44 mm | $329.99 | $379.99 |
| Galaxy Watch9, 40 mm | $379.99 | $429.99 |
See Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 44 mm listing and Galaxy Watch9 40 mm listing for the product examples. Those listings do not include or establish a carrier’s recurring plan cost.

Check these details before buying
- Connectivity variant: Make sure the product listing says LTE if you want the option of cellular service. Bluetooth-only watches are not made LTE-capable by a subscription.
- Carrier support: Ask whether your carrier supports the exact model and region, and whether your existing phone plan or account qualifies.
- Total cost: Compare the LTE model’s purchase price with the carrier’s recurring charge and any activation terms.
- Your use: If you rarely leave your phone behind, the Bluetooth model may be sufficient; if you want calls and messages away from it, LTE may justify the extra cost.
