The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is the stronger fit if you want a huge 14.6-inch canvas, an S Pen included in the box, Android apps, and Samsung DeX. The iPad Pro M5 is a better match if you want Apple Pencil Pro support, Apple’s tandem OLED display, or a smaller 11-inch option alongside the 13-inch model. Your must-have apps, preferred screen size, and existing device ecosystem matter more than a universal winner: this is a feature comparison, not a hands-on test.

Which tablet gives you the better drawing setup?
Choose the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra for a large, ready-to-use canvas
The Ultra’s 14.6-inch display gives drawing and editing work more physical room than either iPad Pro size. Samsung says an S Pen is included with the tablet, so the manufacturer’s listed package includes a stylus; check the exact regional bundle before buying. Samsung announced the S12 series on September 30, 2026, and describes the S Pen as designed for note-taking and precise editing. That wording is Samsung’s promotional claim, not a comparative assessment of pen feel.

Choose the iPad Pro M5 if Apple Pencil Pro and its display suit your workflow
Both M5 iPad Pro sizes support Apple Pencil Pro. Apple specifies a tandem OLED Ultra Retina XDR panel on the 13-inch model, with P3 wide color and ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120 Hz. These are published display specifications; they do not by themselves prove that the iPad is more color-accurate than the Samsung tablet or establish which screen will look better to you.
Apple’s technical specifications list Pencil Pro compatibility, not an included Pencil. Treat the stylus as a separate accessory unless the specific bundle you are considering explicitly includes one. If cost or readiness out of the box matters, compare the actual local package rather than just the tablet’s compatibility list.

Which is better for work and multitasking?
Samsung: DeX and an optional keyboard path
Samsung explicitly presents DeX as a productivity feature and identifies a Pro Keyboard with trackpad as an option. Its US product page says DeX can offer up to four workspaces. This may appeal if you want a desktop-style arrangement for managing multiple tasks, but Samsung’s feature description does not establish that every desktop application or workflow behaves like it would on a computer. The keyboard is an optional accessory path; check exact model compatibility and whether it is bundled in your market.

Apple’s specification pages confirm iPadOS and Thunderbolt/USB 4, but the available product information does not support a direct equivalence between the iPad Pro’s work experience and DeX. Make the decision around the software you actually use: identify any required desktop or mobile apps, file-handling needs, and accessories, then check that each task is supported on the tablet’s operating system.

Screen size, weight, and portability
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra’s 14.6-inch screen is the largest option in this comparison. Apple offers a choice: its 13-inch Wi-Fi iPad Pro is listed at 579 g, while its 11-inch Wi-Fi model is 444 g, according to Apple’s 2025 technical specifications. Samsung product sources report 692 g for the Wi-Fi S12 Ultra in some regions, so verify the precise local model before using weight as a deciding factor. A larger canvas can be useful for drawing and split-screen tasks; an 11-inch iPad is the more compact choice among these listed models.
How to decide based on your apps and devices
- List your must-have apps. Check the current version, features, and subscription terms for the specific operating system and region you plan to use. Samsung names Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint among its S12 Ultra apps, but that alone does not establish feature parity with another platform.
- Pick your preferred canvas size. Consider whether you want Samsung’s 14.6-inch display, Apple’s 13-inch option, or the 11-inch iPad Pro.
- Compare the complete setup cost. Account for whether a stylus and keyboard are included in the exact bundle, rather than assuming that compatibility means inclusion.
- Match the tablet to your existing workflow. Check which operating system supports your required work software and how the tablet fits with the devices and files you already use.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S12 series on September 30, 2026. Apple’s cited iPad Pro M5 specifications are from 2025. Manufacturer pages and regional SKUs can change; confirm current availability, included accessories, app support, and model details in your market before purchase.
