Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement says the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Tab S12+ “come bundled with the ergonomically designed S Pen for effortless note-taking and precise editing.” This confirms an included pen, but it is Samsung’s product description, not an independent performance assessment. Samsung’s announcement does not specify S12 Ultra pairing, charging, attachment orientation, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), or Air Actions support.

Samsung’s support listing for the 5G Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, model SM-X946B, surfaces an Android 17 user manual modified October 1, 2026. The listing itself does not show the manual’s S Pen instructions. Consult the manual for your model and software version rather than assuming instructions for an older tablet also apply.

Samsung’s general “Pair and charge the S Pen with your Galaxy tablet” guide says supported tablet pens pair by attaching them to a designated spot on the tablet. It gives placement and orientation details for Tab S6, S7, S8, S9, and S10 generations, but does not list the Tab S12 Ultra. Do not use an older model’s placement as the S12 Ultra’s confirmed charging or pairing location; check the S12 manual for the designated spot and alignment.

The same guide describes charging supported tablet S Pens at the designated tablet location. It also says that, when a pen is connected wirelessly, its battery percentage can be viewed through Air command or settings. Since the guide’s listed generations end at Tab S10, neither charging behavior nor battery reporting is established here as an S12 Ultra feature.
If the manual confirms attachment pairing or charging, align the pen as illustrated there, then check the manual or on-device settings for connection or battery status. If the pen does not connect, use the troubleshooting checks below without assuming the S12 Ultra has every wireless feature found on older models.

Does the S12 Ultra support S Pen Air Actions and gestures?
That is not established by the available S12-specific information. Air Actions are wireless remote gestures, and they require a compatible pen, device, and app. Samsung’s general guide for compatible devices gives this settings path: Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > Air actions. If that option appears on your S12 Ultra, inspect its app-specific controls there; its presence and listed gestures are more relevant than directions for another model. Samsung’s general exclusions mention Tab S11 and other models, but do not state whether the S12 Ultra supports Air Actions.

For compatible combinations, Samsung describes holding the pen button while flicking up, down, left, or right, or making a clockwise or counterclockwise circle. Which gestures work depends on the app and device. Do not treat this list as a confirmed S12 Ultra feature set unless the device’s settings or manual shows Air Actions.

How to troubleshoot “S Pen is not pairing or charging”
Start with model-specific basics, then check wireless features only if your S12 Ultra offers them:
- Confirm the correct placement. Use the S12 Ultra manual to identify the intended attachment location and orientation, then reattach and align the pen as shown. Samsung’s placement examples for older tablets are not confirmation of S12 placement.
- Check wireless settings if Air Actions are available. Samsung says Airplane mode and the “Limit apps and Home screen” power-saving option can disconnect wireless S Pen features. Turn those off temporarily and test again if the issue involves wireless functions.
- Remove a case or cover temporarily. Samsung notes that magnetic accessories can interfere with pen recognition. Test without third-party covers or accessories, then reintroduce them one at a time.
- Check distance for Air Actions. For devices that support Air Actions, Samsung specifies a range of 30 feet with no obstruction. This is generic troubleshooting guidance, not an S12 Ultra range specification; test near the tablet first.
- Review Air command permissions if relevant. For Air command problems, check the system app permissions Samsung identifies, including Nearby devices and Physical activity, where those permissions are present.
- Use reset only if the option exists and applies. Samsung’s general reset path for supported models is Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > More options > Reset S Pen. Resetting reverts customized features, and Samsung says the option is unavailable on models without BLE features. Confirm S12 Ultra support before resetting; do not look for this procedure as proof that the model supports it.
- Isolate a possible hardware problem. If practical, test with another compatible device or pen, but verify compatibility rather than assuming pens work across models. Contact Samsung service if the pen or tablet appears damaged or the problem continues.

Where to get a replacement pen
Samsung confirms that an S Pen is included with the tablet, but that does not establish the availability or compatibility of a separately sold replacement. If you need one, search for “Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra S Pen” and verify that the seller or Samsung explicitly names the Tab S12 Ultra as compatible. Do not assume a generic Galaxy Tab S Pen will fit or provide the same features.
