What the price difference means
The available official U.S. references put the phones close in price at the entry level, but storage changes the comparison:
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
| Phone and storage | Official U.S. price reference | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S24, 128GB | $799.99 | Samsung U.S. launch starting price in 2024 |
| Galaxy S24, 256GB unlocked | $859.99 | Samsung effective MSRP sheet, July 2024 |
| iPhone 17, 256GB | $799 | Apple U.S. launch starting price in 2025 |
At the cited 256GB references, the S24 MSRP is $60.99 above the iPhone 17 launch price. That is not a like-for-like current deal comparison: the prices are historical U.S. launch/MSRP references from different years, not verified prices available today. Promotions, carrier financing, trade-ins, tax, stock and refurbished condition can all change what a buyer pays. Check local listings for the exact storage and condition before deciding.

Display: a small size difference, different pixel counts
Apple lists a 6.3-inch, 2622 × 1206 OLED display with adaptive refresh up to 120Hz. Samsung lists a 6.2-inch, 2340 × 1080 Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, also up to 120Hz. On paper, the iPhone has the larger screen and higher listed resolution; both manufacturers specify a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Those numbers do not measure brightness, color accuracy, readability outdoors or perceived smoothness.
Cameras and video: compare the tools, not just the megapixels
The S24 has three rear camera modules, listed as 50MP, 10MP and 12MP, and Samsung specifies 3× optical zoom and up to 30× digital zoom. Apple lists two 48MP rear cameras on iPhone 17, a main and an ultra-wide, plus a 2× optical-quality telephoto option and up to 10× digital zoom. The lens layouts and zoom descriptions differ, so megapixel counts alone do not indicate which phone produces better photos.
Rank #3
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
For video, Apple lists 4K Dolby Vision recording at up to 60 frames per second, while Samsung lists 8K recording at 30fps. The maximum resolution and frame rate do not establish video quality, stabilization, file size or how easy footage is to use. Choose based on the modes you expect to use, rather than treating either maximum as an overall verdict.
Size and weight
Samsung’s cited specification lists the S24 at 167g and 147.0 × 70.6 × 7.6mm; Apple lists iPhone 17 at 177g and 149.6 × 71.5 × 7.95mm. On these manufacturer figures, the S24 is 10g lighter and slightly smaller in each listed dimension. The difference may matter if you prefer a lighter handset, though a case adds size and weight.
Rank #4
- Width: 2.78 inches; Length: 5.79 inches; Height: 0.30 inches
Which phone makes more sense for you?
Choose around your existing ecosystem
The S24 runs Android and iPhone 17 runs iOS. If your apps, services, accessories or other devices are already centered on one operating system, staying with it may be more convenient. That is a personal compatibility consideration, not evidence that one phone is objectively better.

Samsung publishes regional S24 pages, and model details and supported network bands can vary by market. Before buying, confirm the exact model number, chipset, storage, network bands and warranty for the country and carrier where you will use it. Samsung’s Spain, India and Germany specification pages illustrate why a regional listing should not be assumed to describe every S24 variant.
