How old are these phones, and what does that mean?
The Galaxy S21 FE 5G was announced for January 2022 with Android 12. The Galaxy A56 5G arrived in March 2025 with Android 15 and One UI 7. They are not same-generation alternatives: the S21 FE is an older FE-series model, while the A56 is the later device with a newer software-support promise. Samsung’s launch specifications document the S21 FE and A56.

Which phone is smaller and has the better-fit display?
Both have FHD+ displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz, but the S21 FE is easier to manage as a smaller phone. Samsung lists its screen at 6.4 inches, with dimensions of 74.5 × 155.7 × 7.9 mm and a weight of 177 g. Its panel is Dynamic AMOLED 2X.

How do the camera systems differ?
The S21 FE has a 12MP wide camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. Samsung lists up to 30x Space Zoom. The A56 has a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 5MP macro camera.
The practical distinction is the dedicated telephoto lens on the S21 FE versus the A56’s macro lens and higher-resolution main-camera specification. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos, and these specifications are not comparative camera-test results. The front cameras are listed at 32MP on the S21 FE and 12MP on the A56; those numbers likewise do not establish selfie quality.
Which has the faster processor?
The A56 uses Samsung’s Exynos 1580. Samsung describes the S21 FE as having a 5nm octa-core processor, but says the processor can vary by market and carrier. Samsung India’s launch version used the Exynos 2100; other markets have different hardware. Check the exact S21 FE model and region before drawing a performance comparison. The available specifications do not establish a direct speed ranking.

Battery capacity and charging: what changes?
Samsung lists a typical battery capacity of 5,000mAh for the A56 and 4,500mAh for the S21 FE. Maximum listed wired charging is 45W for the A56 and 25W for the S21 FE. Those figures describe capacity and supported charging rates, not measured runtime or the time either phone takes to charge in everyday use.
The S21 FE also supports 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, which lets it share power wirelessly. Samsung’s listed A56 charging specification is wired. If wireless charging or reverse power sharing is important, those are concrete S21 FE advantages; if you primarily want higher listed capacity and faster maximum wired charging, the A56 has the stronger specifications on those measures.
What do their water-resistance ratings mean?
The S21 FE is rated IP68; Samsung describes water resistance up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes. The A56 is rated IP67, with resistance up to 1 meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes under laboratory conditions. These ratings use different test conditions, so do not treat them as a direct guarantee of protection in every situation. Neither phone is waterproof, resistance can diminish with wear, and Samsung advises against using the A56 at the beach or pool. See Samsung’s IP-rating guidance.

Which phone has the longer software support?
Samsung promises the A56 up to six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. The commitment is qualified as “up to,” and timing and availability can vary by market.

That record applies to that model variant, not every S21 FE worldwide; rollout details can differ by country and carrier. The A56 has the newer published support commitment, but the S21 FE update record is useful evidence that at least this variant received a later update. Check the precise model and local rollout information before buying.
What is the current price difference?
A current price gap cannot be stated reliably without a market and comparable listings. Prices depend on country, storage and RAM configuration, seller, device condition and date; discounts and trade-in offers can also change the total. Compare the same storage tier in the same market, and note the seller and date for each listing.
For context only, Samsung India advertised introductory S21 FE prices of INR 49,999 for 8GB/128GB and INR 53,999 for 8GB/256GB, valid from January 11 to January 17, 2022. These were historical launch-offer prices, not present-day S21 FE prices, so they cannot be used to calculate a current difference against the A56. Samsung’s announcement is here.

- Choose the S21 FE if you want a more compact phone, a dedicated telephoto camera, wireless charging, Wireless PowerShare or its IP68 rating. Verify the local chipset variant and current update status for the exact model.
- Choose the A56 if you want a larger display, higher listed battery capacity, faster maximum wired charging or Samsung’s newer, longer published software-support commitment.
- Compare camera needs by lens use, not headline megapixels: the S21 FE has telephoto hardware; the A56 has a macro camera and a 50MP main-camera specification. These figures do not establish a photo-quality winner.
- Compare prices only after matching the details: country, storage, seller, condition and date. Do not use the S21 FE’s January 2022 India offer as a current price.
