Choose the Galaxy Note20 if you would rather have a smaller, lighter phone and are satisfied with a flat FHD+ screen. Both support the S Pen, so the better fit depends on your priorities—not a universal winner.

These are launch-era specifications, and Samsung’s figures vary by market and carrier. Screen diagonals measure the full rectangle; rounded corners and the camera opening reduce the usable display area. The storage details above apply to the cited U.S. datasheet, not every regional or carrier version. Samsung’s global launch specifications, its U.S. launch page, and its U.S. business datasheet provide the published comparisons.

Which display is right for you?
Choose the Note20 Ultra for sharpness and smooth scrolling
The Ultra’s 6.9-inch display has a higher listed resolution and pixel density than the Note20’s 6.7-inch screen: 3088 × 1440 and 496 ppi, compared with 2400 × 1080 and 393 ppi. Samsung specifies 120Hz only for the Ultra. That makes it the display-focused choice if you value finer detail or a higher refresh rate.
Choose the Note20 for a flat, slightly smaller screen
The Note20 has a flat FHD+ panel, while the Ultra’s display curves at the edges. Its listed screen is only 0.2 inches smaller diagonally, but the phone itself is also narrower and lighter. If you prefer a flat screen and do not need the Ultra’s resolution or 120Hz mode, the Note20 may be the more comfortable match.

How much do the cameras and zoom differ?
Samsung’s U.S. datasheet lists a 108MP main camera for the Ultra and a 12MP + 12MP + 64MP rear-camera setup for the Note20. Samsung describes the Ultra as offering 5x optical zoom and the Note20 as offering 3x hybrid optical zoom; those labels do not mean the same thing. Samsung also cautions that high-resolution zoom uses digital zoom and may reduce image quality. Samsung’s Note20 support specifications and its regional model comparison document those zoom descriptions.
On the published hardware specifications, the Ultra is the stronger pick if camera resolution and longer-reach zoom are priorities. The figures alone do not establish how the phones compare in real-world photos; no independent head-to-head test is established here.

- The Galaxy Note20 Ultra features a massive 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Quad HD+ resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and HDR10+ support, offering incredibly smooth visuals, vibrant colors, and precise touch response, perfect for gaming, media, and professional work.
Does the Ultra’s larger body matter?
The Ultra measures 164.8 × 77.2 × 8.1mm and weighs 208g. The Note20 measures 161.6 × 75.2 × 8.3mm; Samsung lists its weight as 192g for LTE/Sub-6 or 194g for mmWave. So the Note20 is both shorter and narrower, and weighs 14–16g less depending on variant. That difference can matter if you want a phone that is easier to carry or prefer a smaller handset.

Storage and microSD: check the exact version
Samsung’s carrier-agnostic U.S. datasheet lists the Note20 with 128GB of storage and the Ultra with 128GB or 512GB, plus microSD expansion by up to an additional 1TB. These are U.S. configurations; storage choices and expansion support should not be assumed for other countries or carrier models. If expandable storage is a deciding factor, confirm the exact model number and regional specification before buying.

Battery capacity does not settle battery life
Samsung’s regional comparison page lists typical capacities of 4300mAh for the Note20 and 4500mAh for the Ultra. Those figures describe battery capacity, not measured runtime, so they do not establish that the Ultra lasts longer. Samsung notes that actual battery life varies with network, usage, and other conditions. Samsung’s comparison page provides the capacity figures and qualification.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Both phones support the S Pen
Samsung specifies an S Pen for both models, with Bluetooth, 4,096 pressure levels, and a 0.7mm tip in its series specifications. Ordinary stylus use does not require battery power; Bluetooth remote functions are separate. Since both phones support the pen, the cited specifications do not make S Pen availability a reason to choose one over the other.

What to verify when buying one now
These are 2020 launch-era devices. The cited specifications do not establish current software-support status, compatibility with a particular carrier today, current market price, or the condition of any used unit. Before buying, check the exact model number against your carrier’s compatibility requirements, and inspect the listing’s battery and physical condition, seller reputation, and warranty terms.
