If you want the larger, sharper screen and 120Hz refresh rate, choose the Galaxy Note20 Ultra. The standard Galaxy Note20 is smaller and lighter, with a 6.7-inch FHD+ display. This comparison is specifically about the 2020 Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra—not every Galaxy Note generation—and is based on Samsung’s published specifications, not hands-on testing.

Galaxy Note20 vs Note20 Ultra: the key differences

Samsung’s specifications make the screen the clearest distinction. The Ultra offers a larger, higher-resolution display and the series’ 120Hz option; the Note20 is more compact. Both include Bluetooth-enabled S Pens with 4,096 pressure levels.

These figures are from Samsung’s 2020 Note20-series announcement. Samsung says display size is measured diagonally; the viewable area is smaller because of rounded corners and the camera opening. Regional configurations can vary.

Which Galaxy Note20 should you choose?

Choose the Note20 Ultra for its display

The Ultra is the clear fit if screen size, resolution, or refresh rate is your priority. Its 6.9-inch Quad HD+ display has a stated pixel density of 496 ppi, and Samsung identifies 120Hz as an Ultra-only option. Those are specification differences, not proof of a particular real-world performance advantage in every app.

Choose the Note20 if you want the smaller phone

The Note20 is shorter and narrower than the Ultra in Samsung’s listed measurements, and it weighs less: 192 g for LTE/Sub6 or 194 g for mmWave, versus 208 g for the Ultra. Its 6.7-inch FHD+ display is also smaller and lower-resolution. Whether that trade-off is worthwhile depends on how much you value a more compact handset over the Ultra’s screen features.

What both models offer with the S Pen

Samsung lists Bluetooth support and 4,096 pressure levels for both models. Its announcement also gives up to 24 hours of standby time for the pen; this is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee of actual use time. Samsung describes an operating distance of approximately 10 meters in open space, subject to surroundings and other factors.

Writing compatibility does not necessarily mean a replacement pen supports Bluetooth features such as Air Actions. Samsung’s S Pen compatibility information distinguishes those capabilities. Before buying a replacement, check the exact handset, stylus model, and seller’s feature claims.

What this comparison cannot determine

The specification comparison does not establish which phone is the better buy at today’s price. It also does not settle battery health or endurance, independent camera rankings, remaining software support, regional carrier-band compatibility, or the condition and availability of used devices. Those factors can change the recommendation, particularly for a second-hand phone, so check them for the specific device, seller, and country before purchasing.
