Samsung’s announcements and specifications pages describe closely matched hardware. Their stated specifications do not establish which phone performs better in everyday use, lasts longer on a charge, or takes better photos; those conclusions require comparable testing.

What was the announced price difference?
Samsung India’s 2025 launch announcements put the M17 ₹1,500 below the F17 at each matching RAM and storage tier. The base prices included launch promotions, so treat all figures below as historical announcement prices—not current prices.

These launch figures do not tell you which phone is cheaper now. Compare live listings for the same configuration, and check the seller, coupons or bank offers, delivery area, and stock. Samsung named Flipkart among the F17 sales channels and Amazon among the M17 channels; both were also offered through Samsung.com and retail channels. A past listing or channel announcement does not guarantee current availability.

Are the specifications really the same?
Display and performance
Both phones have a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 1080 × 2340 resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate, according to Samsung’s product specifications. They also use the Exynos 1330 processor. Samsung lists CPU speeds for the F17, but that is not evidence of a real-world speed difference between the two models.
Cameras
Each has a 50 MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5 MP ultrawide camera, a 2 MP macro camera and a 13 MP front camera. OIS can reduce the effect of hand movement, but it cannot guarantee sharp photos in every lighting condition or with moving subjects. The listed camera hardware alone does not establish a photo-quality winner.

Build and water resistance
Samsung describes both models as 7.5 mm thick and lists Gorilla Glass Victus and IP54 dust and splash resistance. IP54 is not a promise of protection against immersion, pools or beach conditions. Samsung’s M17 page describes laboratory spray testing and warns that resistance can diminish with wear.
Battery, charging and software support
Both are specified with a 5,000 mAh battery and 25 W charging. The shared capacity does not prove equal battery life, which depends on use and other conditions. Samsung states that the M17’s 25 W charger is sold separately; check the box contents for the exact model and market before purchase.

At launch, both came with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung announced six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates for each. Samsung’s product-page language says its update information reflects current plans and may change, so it should not be read as a guaranteed schedule for individual releases.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose based on the price you can actually get
If the M17 is still less expensive than the F17 at the same RAM and storage tier, and both are available from sellers you trust, the launch specifications offer no obvious hardware reason to pay extra for the F17. Recheck current prices and offer conditions rather than relying on the old ₹1,500 gap.

Let availability and color break a tie
The announced F17 colors are Violet Pop and Neo Black; the M17 colors are Moonlight Silver and Sapphire Black. Stock can vary by seller and location, so confirm that the exact color and configuration can be delivered to you.
Do not choose on unverified performance or battery claims
The manufacturer-listed core specifications are very similar. Without comparable independent testing, there is no basis here to call one faster, longer-lasting, or better for photography. If any of those is decisive, look for a review that tests the exact models under comparable conditions.

Launch timing and availability
Samsung’s newsroom announcement for the F17 is dated September 11, 2025; its announcement for the M17 is dated October 13, 2025, and says M17 sales begin that day. The respective Samsung product pages display launch-date metadata of September 10 and October 10. These are different page dates, so they should not be confused with the newsroom announcement dates or the M17’s stated sale date.
