If your Galaxy charges unusually slowly, check Fast charging first: Samsung says fast charging will not work when that setting is off. On current US instructions, find it under Settings > Battery > Charging settings. That switch is a plausible explanation for one user’s year of half-speed charging, but Samsung does not say that turning it off halves charging speed on every Galaxy.
Where to find the Fast charging setting
- Open Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
- Turn on Fast charging. Only charging speeds supported by your device will appear.
- If you do not see that path, search Settings for “charging”; labels and layouts can differ by Galaxy model and software version.
On Galaxy S23 series and later, Samsung says the Fast charging and Super fast charging controls are combined into one Fast charging setting. Samsung’s fast-charging instructions cover the setting and supported charging options.

What else you need for fast charging
Turning on the setting cannot make an unsupported phone, charger, or cable charge faster. Samsung says Super Fast Charging is available only on select devices with a Samsung-approved 25W or 45W adapter. Actual speed depends on the device, charger, and battery status. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet; Samsung notes that fast charging may not work when the phone is connected to a PC or standard USB device.

For Samsung’s 45W–60W adapter recommendations, its troubleshooting guidance says to use a 5A-rated USB-C cable; a 3A cable may limit performance. Check your phone’s supported tier and the charger and cable specifications before replacing accessories. A new charger is not automatically necessary if enabling Fast charging resolves the issue.

If the Galaxy still charges slowly
- Check temperature: let the phone cool if it is hot. Samsung warns that charging may stop temporarily or slow when device temperature becomes too high.
- Inspect the connection: check the cable and adapter for damage and the charging port for debris or moisture.
- Review Battery protection: its behavior may affect charging, so check the setting if charging seems to pause or behave differently than expected.
- Run a diagnostic: use Samsung Members cable charging diagnostics to check for a cable-related problem.
- Escalate persistent issues: if compatible equipment, a clean and dry port, normal temperature, and the enabled setting do not help, contact Samsung Support or visit a service center.
Samsung lists settings, incompatible or damaged accessories, temperature, and port conditions among possible causes of slow charging. Its Galaxy slow-charging troubleshooting guide provides additional checks.

A disabled Fast charging setting is a credible cause of a Galaxy not entering a supported fast-charging mode. However, Samsung’s published guidance does not establish a universal half-speed reduction or verify that the effect lasts a year. Treat that duration and speed as an individual experience, not a specification for all Galaxy phones.
