The biggest difference is how they sit: Galaxy Buds On is reported to use a clip-on open-ear design that leaves the ear canal open, while Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 is an open-fit earbud with a metal blade. Buds4 has clearly stated battery estimates; Buds On’s reported 9.5-hour figure lacks matching test details, so it is not yet a like-for-like battery comparison.

How do their designs and fit differ?
Galaxy Buds On: a reported clip around the ear
TechRadar describes Buds On as a clip-on open-ear product, with the speaker and battery balanced around the ear. That form leaves the canal open, unlike an earbud that sits in it. The report also describes a clear-topped charging case. These are reported launch details, not a complete official specification set.

Galaxy Buds4: Samsung’s open-fit earbud
Samsung presents Buds4 as an open-fit model with an oblong metal blade and a computationally shaped fit. Open-fit does not mean the same thing as a clip-on: the wearing concept is different, so comfort and stability will depend on how each design works for an individual ear and activity.

Which features are documented, and what depends on your phone?
Reported Buds On features
TechRadar reports TwinBoost speakers, automatic volume adjustment, audio-leakage reduction, touch controls, head gestures and voice commands. It also reports Galaxy AI use when paired with a Samsung Galaxy phone. The available report does not independently establish the speaker-driver architecture, so those feature descriptions should not be treated as a confirmed technical breakdown.
Samsung’s Buds4 features and compatibility caveats
Samsung documents pinch and swipe controls, Samsung Seamless Codec and Super Clear Call for Buds4. SSC UHQ can deliver up to 24-bit/96 kHz on eligible Galaxy devices; that capability is conditional, not a universal result across phones. Samsung also warns that some functions may be unavailable or vary by connected device, market or operator. Review the current Samsung feature-compatibility information for device and One UI qualifications before buying based on a specific feature.

How long does each battery last?
Galaxy Buds4: separate single-charge and case totals
Samsung estimates up to 5 hours of playback per Buds4 charge with ANC on and up to 6 hours with ANC off. Including case recharges, Samsung lists up to 24 hours with ANC on and up to 30 hours with ANC off. These are internal-test estimates; actual runtime varies with settings, usage, charge cycles and Bluetooth signal.

Galaxy Buds On: 9.5 hours is not a direct comparison
TechRadar says Buds On is “said to be 9.5 hours.” Its report does not specify whether ANC is on, provide a comparable playback protocol or give a case-inclusive total. Treat the number as a reported claim, not proof that Buds On outlasts Buds4 under the same conditions.

Availability and what to check before choosing
As of October 3, 2026, TechRadar reported that Buds On was expected to go on sale in South Korea on October 27 for 299,000 won, with global availability later. Its dollar, pound and Australian-dollar equivalents are conversions, not confirmed local prices. The report said Samsung would provide more detail on the Korean release date; it does not establish a global launch date, a US price or final regional specifications.
- Choose based first on the wearing style you want: a clip-on that leaves the canal open, or Samsung’s conventional open-fit Buds4.
- For Buds4, confirm that your phone supports any codec or Galaxy-specific feature you care about.
- Compare local Buds On pricing and full official specifications when they are published; do not use the reported battery number as a standardized head-to-head result.
Why open-ear designs are getting attention
Omdia reported that open wireless stereo shipments grew 12% year over year to 11.1 million units in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 13.5% of total true wireless stereo shipments, compared with 12.0% a year earlier. Clip-on products made up 61% of OWS shipments in that quarter. Those figures show category momentum, not a measure of either Galaxy product’s quality.
