Rahul Vyas’s From Prompt to Pocket is a 12-part tutorial season about building ClinicLive Pocket, a companion app whose Blazor screens run in three hosts: Android and Windows apps, plus a browser. Its central design choice is to share the interface while putting device-specific behavior behind capability interfaces. The app helps patients manage an appointment they already booked; booking stays on the website.
What ClinicLive Pocket is for
The app is designed for patients who already have an appointment in the clinic’s system. A patient books on the website, where the ticket includes a six-character confirmation code. Vyas describes that code as the complete credential, with no account or password involved. Pocket is intended to let patients check in before reaching the waiting room, follow queue progress, receive turn notifications and haptic feedback, find the clinic and directions, and scan a ticket. It does not replace the website’s booking flow. Read Vyas’s tutorial season.

How one interface runs in three hosts
The tutorial uses .NET MAUI Blazor Hybrid for Android and Windows, and Blazor Server for the browser. The shared screens live in a Razor Class Library. Each host provides implementations of shared capability contracts: the MAUI app can call into device functions through C#, while the web host uses browser behavior where available, no-ops where appropriate, or omits unsupported features. The goal is for shared UI not to call platform APIs directly.

This separation makes the screen code less dependent on its host, but does not make all hosts equivalent. A browser cannot offer every native capability, and even a shared interface sits inside a host with its own constraints.

“The shared screen never has to know which host it’s on, and a feature the browser can’t do simply doesn’t render.”
Hybrid, web or native: what the choice trades
| Approach | Reuse of interface and code | Native capability access | Platform and browser considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| MAUI Blazor Hybrid, as used for Android and Windows | Shares Blazor screens through a Razor Class Library. | Can reach device functions through the MAUI host and C# capability implementations. | The UI runs in a WebView; operating-system-owned areas still need platform-aware handling. |
| Blazor Server, as used for the browser | Uses the same shared screens. | Uses browser behavior, no-ops, or omits features rather than assuming native access. | Browser support differs from native capabilities; the tutorial’s browser host lacks Web Push. |
| Fully native implementation | The tutorial does not provide a measured comparison of code reuse for a native alternative. | The tutorial argues that hybrid retains access to native device APIs, but gives no feature-by-feature native benchmark. | No comparative maintenance or performance measurements are reported. |
The author’s case for hybrid is specific to a solo-developer tutorial: reuse existing Blazor screens while keeping a route to device capabilities. The cost is that a WebView remains a WebView, and host-specific behavior still needs implementation and testing. The tutorial does not establish that this approach is universally faster, cheaper, or better than fully native development.

What the tutorial tested—and what it did not
Vyas reports a setup with Visual Studio MAUI workloads, the Android SDK and emulator, a Pixel 5 emulator image running Android 13, a Windows PC, browser testing with Playwright, and PostgreSQL in Docker. These are details of his development bench, not requirements or purchasing advice for every reader.
- iOS: Targets compile, but Vyas did not build or run the app on Apple hardware because his test bench had no Mac.
- Browser: The browser host does not support Web Push in the tutorial.
- Windows notifications: Toasts did not display in Vyas’s setup even though permission was granted and the operation returned a success response.
- QR scanning demonstration: The Android emulator did not render the poster needed for the demonstration.
- Directions: Google Maps crashed in the emulator after the directions intent launched.
- Build path: One Windows build failed with an overly long working-directory path; using a shorter path resolved that failure.
These are reported observations from this particular setup, not proof that the same behavior occurs on all Windows, Android, browser, or iOS devices. Store publishing is outside the season’s scope, so the tutorial is not evidence of a released or store-ready app.

What the project cost figure means
Vyas reports “about $7.20” in total AI model usage for the season. That is his stated usage figure, not an independently audited total project cost. The article also gives September 2026 per-million-token prices for Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5; those model names and rates are explicitly perishable and do not establish current pricing. They are not necessary to assess the architecture.
