A cloud-based disc golf broadcast moves through five jobs: course-side video contribution, live encoding, packaging and origin, CDN delivery, and playback on a viewer’s device. AWS publishes an example architecture for those roles, but it is a reference design—not a disclosure of the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s (DGPT) private production stack. DGPT’s 2026 coverage plan shows what the audience-facing service must support: live events across the United States and Europe, with both free and subscription viewing.
What a cloud streaming network needs to do
A useful way to plan a live sports stream is to follow the video from the course to the viewer. Each stage has a distinct job, and a failure or incompatibility at one stage can interrupt playback even if the others are working.

| Stage | Role | Planning question |
|---|---|---|
| Course contribution | Cameras and a production system create one or more feeds and send them upstream. | What feeds are needed, and how will they reach the ingest service from the venue? |
| Ingest and transcode | A live encoder receives the feed and creates delivery renditions, often at multiple bitrates. | Can the production send the required feeds, and what output renditions should viewers receive? |
| Packaging and origin | A packager prepares streams in formats players can request and serves as the origin for delivery. | Which playback formats and access controls must be supported? |
| CDN distribution | A content delivery network distributes stream segments to viewers. | How will delivery hold up across a geographically dispersed audience? |
| Playback | A website or supported device plays the delivered stream. | Do the packaging formats, player, and target devices work together? |
AWS describes these boundaries in its MediaLive documentation: upstream systems provide video and media, MediaLive handles live ingest and transcoding, and downstream systems commonly include an origin or packager, a CDN, and a viewer device or website. AWS’s services are examples for explaining the workflow, not evidence that DGPT uses this exact arrangement.
How the AWS reference architecture maps to a tournament
AWS’s published Live Streaming on AWS architecture provides a concrete example of how the cloud stages can fit together. It uses two source feeds for redundancy, creates adaptive-bitrate outputs, packages those outputs, and delivers them through CloudFront.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Contribute the course feeds. Cameras and a production system generate the venue video. AWS identifies either a live-streaming camera or a contribution encoder at a sports venue as a possible upstream source. The documentation does not specify a retail encoder model.
- Ingest and transcode. AWS Elemental MediaLive receives the video and creates multiple stream renditions. Adaptive bitrate lets a player select an appropriate rendition as viewing conditions change.
- Package for playback. AWS Elemental MediaPackage prepares outputs for player and device support. The reference architecture includes HLS, DASH, and CMAF packaging; AWS says it selected these formats for support across popular streaming devices. MediaPackage can also support features such as digital rights management.
- Deliver through the CDN. Amazon CloudFront distributes the packaged stream. In this AWS design, an authorization identifier protects the origin, and AWS Secrets Manager stores that identifier.
- Test the player path. A viewer watches through a website or supported device. The player must be compatible with the formats and access rules chosen upstream; a cloud workflow is not complete just because the feed reaches the CDN.
The two-feed setup is a redundancy pattern, not a published reliability score. AWS documents a design choice, not an independent performance benchmark or a turnkey production plan for a multi-camera tournament.
Where reliability decisions belong
Cloud redundancy cannot repair every problem that starts at a remote course. A stream plan should account for the full path: camera and production output, venue contribution, cloud ingest, packaging, CDN, and playback. The public materials reviewed do not establish DGPT’s field connectivity design, network provider or bonding approach, camera count, latency target, or service-level targets.
Feed redundancy
A primary and backup source can reduce dependence on a single contribution feed; AWS’s reference architecture uses two inputs for this reason. A production team still has to determine whether the backup feed is independently available and how switching should work. The AWS example does not prescribe a DGPT field configuration.

Venue connectivity
Before an event, the production team needs to confirm that the venue can send the planned video feeds to cloud ingest. The available sources do not publish a DGPT connectivity benchmark or a specific backup-network design. Treat contribution capacity and contingency planning as event-specific engineering work rather than assuming a generic cloud diagram solves them.
Latency and synchronization
Choose a latency target according to how closely the broadcast needs to align with live scoring and social conversation. The cited sources give no DGPT latency target, so a particular number cannot be attributed to the tour. The player, packaging and delivery choices should be evaluated against the desired viewing experience.
Monitoring and operational scope
AWS’s reference design describes monitoring and logging, but it does not define the staffing plan for a sports production. The work also scales with the number of rounds, divisions, cameras, course feeds, and production hours. Those requirements need to be established for each tour and event schedule.

How DGPT’s 2026 viewing plan shapes distribution
DGPT’s February 23, 2026 announcement describes complete Disc Golf Network (DGN) coverage of more than twenty tournaments across the United States and Europe. Under that plan, the first hour of every live round is free on YouTube, supported by Powerball, and the entirety of round one is available at no cost on DGN Free after creating an account.
The announcement lists Standard and Pro subscription options. Both include DGPT, DGPT+, and Powerball Playoff events, as well as the Champions Cup, US Women’s Disc Golf Championship, and Pro Worlds. Pro additionally includes the European Open, USDGC, and Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship. PDGA members can pair accounts for lower pricing, and DGPT also offers a basic free level. Event access can change by season, so check DGPT’s current plan before relying on a particular tier for a later season.
DGPT CEO Jeff Spring said the free coverage gives fans a chance to try the DGN platform, where complete first-round coverage remains available at no cost. For a streaming network, the plan illustrates that distribution is not just a question of getting video to a CDN: public access, account-based free viewing, and subscription entitlements also have to be reflected in the viewer experience.

DGPT’s 2026 season update reports 2 million live viewership sessions on DGN and 1 million live views on the DGPT YouTube channel. Those are sessions and views as reported by DGPT in 2026, not stated counts of unique viewers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Access control without confusing the viewer
A mixed-access service has to distinguish what can be watched publicly from what requires an account or subscription. DGPT’s 2026 plan is an example: the first hour of a live round is free on YouTube, the complete first round is free on DGN after account creation, and other coverage depends on the event and subscription tier.
On the delivery side, AWS’s reference architecture includes an authorization identifier between the CDN and origin, with the identifier stored in Secrets Manager. This is a technical origin-protection measure, not a substitute for designing account entitlements or explaining access rules clearly in the player. Cloud delivery controls and subscription decisions solve related but different problems.

Scope, cost, and what public sources establish
A cloud workflow diagram is not a complete tournament budget or operating plan. Costs and staffing depend on the event’s production scope and the current cloud configuration, while the reviewed public sources do not provide DGPT’s per-event costs, labor figures, or current detailed bill of materials. Production teams need current cloud estimates and event-specific vendor quotes rather than extrapolating a cost from the reference architecture.
DGPT’s February 11, 2025 media plan reported that the network had migrated to Insys Video Technologies as its primary technology service provider in 2024 and described an enhanced AWS partnership. This is historical context only; it does not establish current contract status or disclose DGPT’s internal cloud topology.
The same 2025 plan described next-day post-produced coverage arrangements. Those are dated 2025 details, not guarantees about 2026 distribution. The February 2026 live media plan is the relevant published source for the current-season access details described here.
