What is the Frigidaire GRFS2853AD?
It is the black stainless steel finish of Frigidaire’s Gallery 27.8 cu. ft. standard-depth French door refrigerator. The stainless steel finish is model GRFS2853AF; RTINGS says the two models otherwise have identical specifications. Frigidaire describes it as a 28 cu. ft. class refrigerator.

The manufacturer lists CrispSeal Plus humidity-controlled crispers with an ethylene adsorber, a temperature-controlled drawer, an external water and ice dispenser, dual ice makers, EvenTemp cooling, LED lighting, and a PurePour water filter with a filter indicator. These are listed product features, not independent proof of a particular storage or freshness outcome. Frigidaire also says the model has no Wi-Fi connectivity.

How much room does it provide?
Frigidaire lists 27.8 cu. ft. total capacity, divided into 18.8 cu. ft. for fresh food and 9 cu. ft. for the freezer. RTINGS identifies fresh-food capacity as a strength, but notes that the in-fridge ice maker occupies some of that space.
In RTINGS’ review, the large lower freezer bins were a plus, while limited space on the top freezer shelf was a drawback. Consider how you use that upper area as well as the headline capacity: usable storage depends on the layout and the space taken up by ice-making equipment.

What did independent testing find about cooling?
RTINGS published its review on April 20, 2026, and modified it on August 18, 2026. It gave the refrigerator a 7.2 everyday-use score. Its test found consistent freezer temperatures but poor temperature uniformity in the refrigerator cabinet: the upper portion was warmer than the setpoint while the lower shelf was colder. RTINGS measured a 5.4 °F (3.0 °C) shelf gradient and a 3.2 °F (1.8 °C) door-bin offset.

RTINGS advises placing temperature-sensitive items on a middle shelf. These are findings from its tested unit, not a guarantee that every refrigerator will behave identically. Still, uneven temperatures are the main performance concern in the available independent assessment.

Cabinet depth alone does not tell you whether the refrigerator will clear counters, walls, doorways, or the route from the entrance. Before ordering, check the opening, delivery path, door swing and clearance, water connection, and all required clearances against the current installation guide. Frigidaire says to follow applicable electrical, plumbing, and other codes.

The product has a water filter and filter indicator, but the cited official information does not identify a replacement filter part number. Verify compatibility using current model-specific documentation or an official parts lookup before ordering a replacement.
How does it compare with other options?
RTINGS names the Frigidaire FRFN2813AF as a similar alternative, describing it as less expensive, higher-capacity, and without an in-fridge ice maker. It also names the GE Profile PGE29BYTFS as an alternative with dual-evaporator cooling. Those descriptions are from RTINGS; they do not establish current prices or a like-for-like comparison of current listings.
In an RTINGS comparison, the LG LF29H8330S maintained more uniform temperatures and ran quieter, while RTINGS found the Frigidaire had a more consistent supply of spare parts and a farther-reaching authorized-service network in that comparison.
