Yes, there are free alternatives to Connecteam—but the right choice depends on whether you need a time clock as well as scheduling. For a single-location team of up to 10 employees, Homebase’s free Basic plan includes basic scheduling and time tracking. Sling’s free plan covers scheduling and communication for up to 30 users, but mobile time tracking is on a paid tier. Before switching, check whether Connecteam’s own advertised Small Business Plan—which is free for up to 10 employees—already covers your needs.
Do you need to switch from Connecteam?
Not necessarily. Connecteam advertises a free Small Business Plan for up to 10 employees, with features across Operations, Communications, and HR & Skills. Its page lists time clocking, task management, communication, scheduling, checklists and forms, and HR and skills tools. Check the current plan details for the specific features and user-count rules your team needs before relying on that cap: Connecteam Small Business Plan.

Connecteam also describes its product as three hubs, with fixed prices for the first 30 users and a per-user monthly charge starting at user 31. Its pricing page distinguishes the Small Business Plan from the limited plan available after a trial, so confirm which offer applies to your account: Connecteam pricing.

These are not identical bundles: a free schedule-and-messaging plan is not a like-for-like replacement for an all-in-one system with timekeeping, tasks, forms, and HR features. Compare the exact functions you use, not just the word “free.”

When Homebase is the stronger free fit
Homebase is the clearest option in this comparison when you run an hourly business at one location and need both basic scheduling and basic time tracking without a subscription fee. Its Basic plan is listed at $0 per location per month for one location and up to 10 employees: Homebase pricing.
The limits matter: its free allowance is tied to one location and a 10-employee cap. Homebase lists paid plans at $30 per location/month for Essentials, $70 for Plus, and $120 for All-in-One; the page includes an annual/monthly billing toggle, so check the selected billing term and current checkout amount. More advanced features are on paid tiers.
Payroll is an add-on rather than something to assume is included in the free plan. Homebase lists it at a $49 monthly base fee plus $6 per paid employee per month. The pricing page also displays a limited first-six-month offer; check current eligibility and terms before including that offer in a budget.

When Sling is the stronger free fit
Sling’s free plan is useful when the central problem is building schedules and communicating shift information. Sling lists the Free plan for up to 30 users, with shift scheduling, time-off requests, available shifts, news sharing, and private messaging: Sling pricing.
Do not treat it as a free mobile time-clock replacement: Sling lists mobile time tracking on Premium. If timekeeping is essential, include the paid tier in your comparison. Sling displays Premium at $2.00 per user/month on monthly billing or $1.70 with annual billing, and Business at $4.00 monthly or $3.40 annually. These are USD prices shown on its pricing page; confirm the billing term and current checkout price before deciding.
When to investigate 7shifts or other options
7shifts for restaurant operations
7shifts is a restaurant-focused candidate, and its official site describes scheduling, clocking, payroll, and communication workflows. The official pricing information available here does not establish its current free-plan limits. A Homebase-authored 2026 alternatives article reports a free plan for up to 15 employees at one location, but that is a secondary claim from a vendor discussing competitors; verify the offer and terms directly with 7shifts before treating it as current: 7shifts pricing and Homebase’s Connecteam alternatives comparison.

Deputy, When I Work, and Jibble
The same Homebase-authored alternatives article describes Deputy and When I Work as paid options and Jibble as free. These are secondary comparisons, not confirmed current plan details. Check each vendor’s own current pricing and feature pages if the options above do not fit; do not assume that a reported free plan includes the time clock, locations, or employee capacity you need.
How to compare plans before moving a team
Make a short requirements list before importing schedules or changing employee routines. The most important differences are often hidden in the billing unit or in whether “time tracking” is included in the free tier.
- Headcount and user definitions: compare the stated employee or user cap, and ask how active, archived, or invited accounts are counted.
- Locations and schedules: check whether the free allowance is per company, per location, or limited by the number of schedules.
- Time clock: confirm whether employees can clock in on the free plan, and whether mobile tracking, kiosk use, or other clock methods are restricted.
- Daily workflows: list whether you rely on messaging, tasks, forms, onboarding, training, or HR tools—not only shift creation.
- Payroll: distinguish payroll processing from payroll integrations and add-ons; include any base and per-employee charges.
- Growth costs: determine what happens when you exceed a user or location limit and whether pricing is charged per user, location, or product hub.
The pricing basis differs across these services. Connecteam describes three hubs and a fixed-price structure for the first 30 users, then a per-user monthly charge from user 31. Homebase prices its listed paid plans per location. Sling’s listed paid tiers are priced per user. A lower starting price may not remain lower once your actual locations, users, and required features are included.
Which free Connecteam alternative should you choose?
- Start with Homebase if you have one location, no more than 10 employees, and want basic scheduling and time tracking together.
- Start with Sling if free scheduling and shift communication for up to 30 users are the priority and you can accept that mobile time tracking is paid.
- Keep Connecteam on the shortlist if your team has up to 10 employees and benefits from its advertised combination of time clock, communications, tasks, forms, scheduling, and HR/skills features.
- Check 7shifts directly if you run a restaurant and want restaurant-specific workforce workflows; verify its current free availability and limits with the vendor.
Prices and plan limits can change. Connecteam’s pricing calculator says its public-price and feature inputs were reviewed on August 30, 2026, and may vary with promotions, taxes, contract terms, add-ons, regional pricing, seat definitions, plan changes, or custom quotes: Connecteam pricing calculator. Homebase says its comparison prices were verified against official pages as of September 2026. Confirm current terms with the vendors before switching or budgeting.
