Its official documentation covers standard, flush, and always-open variants; for horizontal cards or accordion-style navigation, you’ll need an adapted pattern rather than the standard component. The examples below are design directions and implementation references—not a verified list of 25 distinct free demos.
Bootstrap accordion examples: choose a pattern
Bootstrap’s accordion uses its Collapse JavaScript plugin to show and hide vertically arranged panels. The official Bootstrap v5.3 Accordion documentation is the most direct place to start when you want a component that follows Bootstrap’s own markup and behavior.

| Pattern | Useful for | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| FAQ accordion | Questions and answers where visitors may want to reveal only relevant details. | Keep question labels specific, and decide whether readers should be able to open several answers at once. |
| Flush accordion | Edge-to-edge lists that should blend into a surrounding layout. | Bootstrap’s .accordion-flush variant removes borders and rounded corners. |
| Always-open accordion | Reference or comparison content where readers may need multiple panels visible together. | Omit data-bs-parent to allow multiple panels to stay open. |
| Horizontal card accordion | Card-based visual navigation or a compact feature showcase. | This is an adapted pattern: its card appearance is styled with CSS and changed through JavaScript, rather than being Bootstrap’s standard vertical accordion. |
| Accordion-style navigation | Grouped navigation links in a compact menu. | Check focus order, clear labels, and how the menu behaves on narrow screens. |
For FAQ design ideas, MDBootstrap’s FAQ examples describe using accordion or collapse patterns to conserve page space. A community example also shows a Bootstrap 5.3 FAQ treatment with flush styling and an icon: Bootstrap 5.3 FAQ accordion on CodePen. Treat these as inspiration; check each source’s current availability, Bootstrap compatibility, and license before reusing code.

Start with the official component when a vertical stack of collapsible panels fits the design. Bootstrap documents how to set a panel open initially, use the flush style, and allow multiple panels to remain open. The key behavior choice is whether opening one item should close another: the documented always-open behavior is achieved by omitting data-bs-parent.

For a horizontal card treatment, MDBootstrap’s horizontal accordion example is a separate adapted approach. Its appearance is established in CSS and changed through JavaScript; do not assume it has the same markup or behavior as Bootstrap’s standard component.
For a navigation menu, MDBootstrap’s accordion menu example offers another design direction. Navigation needs careful review beyond appearance: make sure labels are understandable, focus moves in a sensible order, and the menu remains usable at narrow widths.
Customize appearance and motion
Bootstrap v5.3 exposes local CSS variables for accordion styling and supports broader Sass customization. That gives you options to adjust the component’s visual treatment without treating a third-party demo as a finished, production-ready implementation. Consult the official accordion documentation for the current component details.

Motion matters as well as color and spacing. Bootstrap’s v5.3 Accordion documentation says: “The animation effect of this component is dependent on the prefers-reduced-motion media query.” Account for visitors who request reduced motion when adding custom transitions or JavaScript effects.

Check accessibility before choosing a design
Visual examples do not establish that a particular implementation meets your accessibility needs. Bootstrap’s Collapse documentation explicitly notes that its current implementation does not include the optional keyboard interactions described in the WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices Guide accordion pattern; developers who need those interactions must add them with custom JavaScript. This is a limitation Bootstrap documents for its implementation, not proof that every accordion is inaccessible.
Use the W3C WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices Guide accordion example as an accessibility reference, and verify the behavior of the component you choose. In particular, review keyboard operation, focus order, readable labels, and visible indication of each panel’s expanded or collapsed state.

A practical checklist for comparing free designs
Before adopting a free Bootstrap accordion example, compare the behavior and implementation—not just the screenshot:
- Does keyboard operation and focus order work for your intended use?
- Can one panel or several panels remain open?
- Does the page need a panel expanded on initial load?
- Does the design respect reduced-motion preferences, including any custom animation?
- Are the labels clear, and is the open or closed state apparent?
- Does the layout remain usable on narrow screens?
- What additional CSS or JavaScript does the pattern require?
- Does the source explicitly permit the reuse you intend, and is it compatible with your Bootstrap version?
These checks are evaluation criteria, not claims that the linked examples have been tested. The available references illustrate several useful directions, but do not establish 25 unique, verified free designs or confirm the licensing of every example.
