First identify what the laptop is doing: a black screen after a BIOS update may call for firmware recovery, while “No Bootable Device Found – Press any key to go to boot manager” points to a drive or operating-system problem. Those symptoms need different fixes. The recovery steps below apply specifically to the Framework Laptop 12 13th Gen Intel Core; do not use its recovery filename or BIOS file on another Framework model.
Identify the failure before trying recovery
Note what appears when you press the power button and whether the problem began during or after a BIOS update:

- The laptop powers on, but the screen stays blank or the operating system never starts after a BIOS update: this may match Framework’s BIOS Crisis Recovery case.
- You see “No Bootable Device Found – Press any key to go to boot manager”: troubleshoot storage detection and operating-system installation. That message alone does not prove the BIOS is corrupted.
- You can reach BIOS setup or the boot-device menu: use those menus to investigate boot options; do not treat menu access as a reason to reflash firmware.
Framework describes Crisis Recovery for a system that fails to power on to the OS after a BIOS update, has no display, or has been directed to undergo recovery. A laptop that boots normally does not need this procedure. Read Framework’s Laptop 12 BIOS Crisis Recovery instructions.

Use BIOS Crisis Recovery only for the documented Laptop 12
Framework’s BIOS version listing identifies BIOS 3.09 for the Laptop 12 13th Gen Intel Core, released September 8, 2026. The recovery procedure below is for that model and its matching BIOS resources—not a universal Framework recovery recipe. Check your laptop’s exact model and official BIOS resource before preparing a recovery drive. If the instructions or file do not match your model, stop and contact Framework support.

Prepare the model-specific recovery drive
- On a working computer, format a USB flash drive as FAT32. Formatting erases its contents, so copy anything you need elsewhere first.
- Create this folder path on the drive:
EFIFWK. - Download the EFI Shell Update package for the Laptop 12 13th Gen Intel Core from Framework’s matching BIOS resource. Obtain its CAP file, rename it exactly to
Framework_Laptop_12_13th_Gen_Intel_Core_RECOVERY.fd, and place it inEFIFWK. The full path isEFIFWKFramework_Laptop_12_13th_Gen_Intel_Core_RECOVERY.fd. Capitalization and the.fdsuffix matter. - Safely eject the USB drive.
Start recovery and let it finish
- Fully power off the affected laptop, insert the recovery drive, and turn the laptop on.
- If the BIOS detects corrupted code, recovery is designed to start automatically; Framework’s instructions do not call for a special key combination.
- Wait while the BIOS scans attached USB and NVMe storage and enters recovery. This can take a few minutes.
- Keep the laptop powered and leave the recovery media connected while reflashing is in progress. Do not power off the machine or remove the drive; interrupting the flash can leave the laptop unbootable.
- Wait for recovery to complete, then restart as directed.
Troubleshoot “No Bootable Device Found” separately
For the Laptop 12 13th Gen Intel Core, Framework’s no-boot-device guidance points to storage and OS checks rather than assuming a firmware failure.
- DIY edition: confirm that all components, including storage, are installed correctly, and verify that an operating system is installed. Framework links to supported OS installation guides from its troubleshooting page.
- Prebuilt edition: Framework directs owners to support.
- DIY edition still will not boot after a supported OS installation: contact Framework support.
Reach BIOS setup or the boot-device menu
Framework’s BIOS entry guide says to tap F2 during startup for BIOS setup or F12 for the boot-device selection screen. If a key does not register, try these menu-access steps:

- Shut down the laptop and disconnect power for 35 seconds, then try again.
- Press Fn+Esc to toggle function lock, then retry the key.
- Test with an external USB keyboard.
These suggestions help reach the menus; they do not replace model-specific firmware recovery when the BIOS is corrupted.

Use Framework support and the repair resources for your exact model if the recovery instructions do not match your laptop, you cannot obtain the correct recovery file, or the machine remains unbootable. Do not open the laptop or replace a board based only on the description “bricked”; first establish which failure path applies.
