There is no reliable, season-proof ranking of Fortnite containers. In Battle Royale, decide whether to search based on what you need, how far out of your way the container is, and how much exposure the search creates. In Chapter 7 Season 4, Epic’s Loot Hacks also made chest bonuses depend partly on a player’s chosen seasonal mechanic.
Which Fortnite containers are worth searching?
Search a container when its likely usefulness to you outweighs the time and risk of reaching and opening it. That is a tactical decision, not a proven ranking: the official sources available do not establish current comparative drop odds or expected value for chests, ammo boxes, supply drops, llamas, safes, or other container types.

Start with the need you have right now
Consider what your inventory lacks and whether the container is plausibly useful for that gap. During Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, Epic documented Loot Hacks that let players spend Sprite Dust to customize bonus items dropped from Battle Royale chests. A chosen Loot Hack could make a chest more relevant to a particular need, but Epic’s description does not establish guaranteed contents or prove that chests have the best average loot. Epic’s Fortnite news covered the seasonal feature on August 20, 2026.
Weigh the route and exposure
A container already on your route is a different proposition from one that requires a detour. Also consider whether searching leaves you exposed or makes your position predictable. These are situational judgments: no container type is established as inherently safe or as always attracting opponents.

Let the match override a general preference
Storm timing, squad needs, inventory gaps, and mode rules can change the decision. If opening a container would delay movement or leave the squad vulnerable, its possible contents may not justify the cost. Treat this as practical match judgment, not a measured loot-efficiency formula.
Are supply drops worth going for?
There is no current, comparable official loot table in the sources cited here that establishes whether a supply drop is worth pursuing over another container. Make the call using the same factors: whether its potential contents address an immediate need, how much time the route takes, and the exposure involved. Do not assume a fixed payoff or search value for supply drops based on older Fortnite guides.

Why old loot rankings can mislead
Fortnite’s loot pools and mechanics change. Epic’s Battle Royale news archive includes Chapter Seven v39.00 Update Notes dated November 29, 2025, but an archived update does not establish the active season’s container contents or odds. Its Battle Royale news index is useful for finding updates, not as a current comparative loot table.
Historical patch notes illustrate the problem. Epic’s March 15, 2018 v3.3 notes described Supply Llamas as extremely rare and listed specific materials, ammunition, traps, and consumables. Those figures describe an old version of the game, not present-day llama availability or rewards. Likewise, Epic’s v3.5 notes described a limited-time mode with increased ammunition from ammo boxes and increased ammunition and consumables from chests; those mode-specific changes are not current general Battle Royale rules.

A quick decision checklist
- Need: Would this container plausibly help with a current inventory or squad need?
- Seasonal mechanic: Does an active feature, such as a chest Loot Hack, make its bonus items more relevant to you?
- Route: Is it close enough that searching will not cost more time than it is worth?
- Exposure: Can you open it without taking an avoidable risk or giving away your position?
- Match state: Do the storm, mode rules, or squad situation make moving on the better choice?
For current mechanics, check Epic’s latest Battle Royale update notes rather than relying on historical loot figures. The available official sources do not provide a current container-by-container comparison of drop rates, spawn frequency, or expected value.
