Frank reads incoming requests for quotation (RFQs), identifies missing details, applies a shop’s own pricing rules, prepares quote documents, and follows up while engineers, estimators, and sales staff retain approval and technical authority.
What Forgepoint announced
Forgepoint was founded by Jack Strauss and Alex Pareto and is focused on software for manufacturers. Primary Venture Partners and a16z speedrun led the seed financing. Angels associated with OpenAI, Brex, Vercel, and SoFi also participated.

An a16z speedrun company profile lists Forgepoint as founded in 2025, based in San Francisco, and employing eight people at the time of that profile. The new capital is aimed at expanding the product and its adoption across manufacturing segments.
How Frank handles a manufacturing RFQ
1. Qualifying the request
Frank monitors incoming RFQs and their attachments, including part files and drawings. It checks whether the information needed for a reliable quote is present and contacts the customer for missing specifications instead of allowing an incomplete request to stall in an inbox.

2. Applying the shop’s pricing logic
The system is configured around each manufacturer’s own cost model rather than a generic price formula. It can use catalogs, material lists, cut lengths, inventory information, customer-specific pricing, exceptions, and similar historical jobs when preparing a draft.
3. Routing technical and commercial decisions
When a request needs engineering judgment or a commercial exception, Frank routes it to the appropriate reviewer. Human engineers, estimators, and salespeople continue to make the technical and commercial decisions; the software prepares the work for approval.

4. Producing and sending the quote
After approval, Frank creates the final document in the manufacturer’s template, sends it, manages follow-up, and records emails, attachments, and actions in the company’s CRM or ERP systems. That creates a continuous record from the original RFQ through the customer response.

Why manufacturers are automating quoting
Forgepoint’s operating thesis is that many manufacturers automated production before automating the office work surrounding it: quoting, sales communication, procurement, and order administration. RFQs often arrive in inconsistent formats and require repeated data entry, technical clarification, pricing exceptions, and follow-up. Automating those steps can increase the number of opportunities a small estimating or sales team can handle without removing the review gates that protect margins and specifications.
Response speed is commercially important. SiliconANGLE reported that more than half of manufacturing firms expect a vendor response within 24 hours, attributing the figure to Gardner Intelligence’s 2025 data. The same report attributed a 78% “buy from the first supplier that responds” figure to Forgepoint’s own 2026 research. The 78% figure is a company claim reported by SiliconANGLE, not an independently verified industry statistic.

Does Frank replace estimators or engineers?
Forgepoint presents Frank as an operational layer, not an autonomous replacement for a shop’s experts. The software gathers files, extracts details, applies configured rules, finds relevant history, and drafts documents. People still resolve ambiguous drawings, decide whether a process is feasible, approve prices and exceptions, and authorize the final quote. The routing and approval model is therefore central to the product: speed comes from reducing administrative work while leaving accountability with the manufacturer.
What to check when evaluating AI quoting software
Manufacturers considering this category should test the complete workflow rather than judging a chatbot’s ability to read one document:
- RFQ intake: Can it handle email, attachments, drawings, and automated requests for missing specifications?
- Pricing fidelity: Can it reproduce the shop’s cost model, catalogs, inventory constraints, customer pricing, and exceptions?
- Human controls: Are engineering review, approval routing, and commercial sign-off explicit and auditable?
- System integration: Does it write to the existing CRM and ERP, use approved document templates, log correspondence, and retain historical quote context?
- Evidence: Are throughput and time-to-quote improvements measured for the specific operation, with clear definitions and implementation conditions?
Zach Fredericks, a principal at Primary Venture Partners, summarized the investment case: “A manufacturer’s ability to grow depends on how much work its team can quote, plan, and manage.” He added that Forgepoint is giving those teams more capacity, starting with quoting.
Forgepoint’s financing and Frank’s reported adoption signal a bet that the next manufacturing software gains will come from the commercial processes around the factory as much as from the factory floor. The practical test will be whether each deployment can encode a shop’s real pricing and review practices without weakening engineering control.
