Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For current foldables, the crease is an expected feature, not by itself a defect. A durability test or an IP rating answers only a narrow question; neither guarantees a phone will avoid hinge or screen failure. And a repair that is technically possible may still be difficult, risky or hard to arrange. Here is what the available evidence says about the Galaxy Z Fold8 and other named models—and what it does not establish.
How the crease compares—and when it may signal a fault
Every folding display has a fold line. Its visibility and feel vary with the model, viewing angle, lighting and the person using it. A crease may catch reflected light or feel more noticeable when you run a finger across it; a comparison of how visible it looks in one review is not a guarantee of how it will look in every setting.

Galaxy Z Fold8
Samsung says its Flex Titanium approach is intended to reduce crease visibility and improve display durability. In its September 30, 2026 review, Tom’s Guide describes the Fold8 crease as much less noticeable than before. That is a review observation, not a measurement of long-term crease behavior. In an August 2026 teardown, iFixit says the crease remains visible, particularly in reflected light, and notes that how it changes over time is not yet established.
Galaxy Z Fold5
A crease on the unfolded Fold5’s main screen is not, by itself, a defect. Samsung Gulf’s support guidance, updated June 29, 2026, describes it as normal and says the fold line cannot be completely eliminated. That is guidance for the Fold5, not a diagnosis of every foldable model or every screen problem.

Other named models
The sources cited here do not provide a directly comparable crease-visibility or tactility assessment for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip8 or Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Do not infer that their creases are absent or equivalent to the Fold8’s from the lack of a comparable report.
A crease is different from a display fault. Black lines, dead pixels or touch failure at the fold are symptoms to raise with the manufacturer, not features to dismiss as a normal crease. A photograph alone may not establish the cause; check the support and warranty terms for your region.
What durability evidence actually tells you
Fold-cycle testing, ingress protection, hinge reliability, drop resistance and repairability measure different things. A panel surviving repeated folds does not establish how the complete phone handles grit, impacts, water exposure or a hinge failure.

The Fold7 panel test
Samsung Display reported that the foldable OLED panel used in the Galaxy Z Fold7 remained functional after 500,000 folds. Bureau Veritas conducted the test over 13 days at 25°C. This is a controlled panel test, not a whole-phone test, a comparison across brands or a failure-rate estimate for owners’ devices.
Samsung Display interpreted that result as equivalent to more than 10 years at about 100 folds per day, or more than six years at over 200 folds per day. Those figures are Samsung Display’s extrapolation from its test, not a guaranteed service life. Actual use and conditions differ, and the test does not establish how long a hinge, battery or other phone component will last.
Fold8 materials and Samsung’s design goal
Samsung says Flex Titanium is intended to improve durability as well as reduce crease visibility. In a July 30, 2026 engineering interview, Samsung executive Sunghoon Moon described the aim this way: “Our goal was to make foldables thinner and lighter without compromising durability or the viewing experience.” Samsung’s Flex Titanium announcement and the engineering interview document the company’s design claims and goal; they are not independent proof of long-term reliability.

Ingress ratings are a separate measure
Tom’s Guide reports an IP48 rating for the Galaxy Z Fold8. TechRadar’s 2026 buying guide identifies IP68 protection for the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Those ratings are not substitutes for a fold-cycle test, and they do not establish protection from sand or grit, impact damage or a failed hinge. The ratings alone also do not tell you how either model’s screen will age.

The published evidence cited here does not establish trustworthy, comparable long-term failure rates across foldable brands. A cycle count from one panel test cannot rank complete phones from different manufacturers or predict an individual owner’s experience.

How repairable is the Galaxy Z Fold8?
iFixit’s August 2026 teardown gives the Fold8 a provisional repairability score of 4/10. The score belongs to iFixit; it is not a regulator’s rating or a universal standard. The teardown points to both useful design choices and difficult repair paths.
What helps
- The charge port is modular, so it is not described as inseparable from the mainboard.
- Battery pull jackets are provided to assist with battery removal.
What makes a repair difficult
- The hinge and inner display are difficult repair paths, according to iFixit.
- Reaching the battery can involve going through the outer display, a fragile and expensive component; that makes battery replacement risky.
- Fold8 parts availability is uncertain. iFixit also reports scarcity of official Fold7 replacement parts, a warning that parts access can be a practical obstacle, not just a teardown concern.
These findings do not establish equivalent repairability for the Fold8 Ultra, Flip8, Pixel 10 Pro Fold or every regional version of a phone. They also do not verify repair prices, warranty coverage or authorized-service availability across regions. Do not treat the teardown as a recommendation to open a foldable display as a casual DIY repair.
What to check before buying or seeking service
Foldable lineups, genuine-parts stock and authorized repair options vary by country and change over time. Before buying, or before committing to a repair, check the manufacturer’s local support channel and ask the service provider concrete questions:
- Can it service this exact model in your country, and is the service authorized?
- Are genuine parts for the inner display, outer display and hinge currently in stock, or would they need to be ordered?
- What is the quoted price and turnaround time for the repair you may need?
- What do the local warranty terms cover, and what would make display or hinge damage chargeable?
Do not assume a phone is sold or serviceable in your country just because it appears in a global comparison. The cited sources do not establish region-specific repair prices or warranty terms for the models above, so get those details from the manufacturer or repair provider for your location.
Quick Recap
How to choose between the trade-offs
- If crease visibility is your main concern: the Fold8 has the most specific recent comparison here: Tom’s Guide found it less noticeable than before, while iFixit still saw it in reflected light. If possible, inspect the phone under the lighting in which you normally use it.
- If durability is your main concern: distinguish Samsung Display’s Fold7 panel test from evidence about a complete phone. Neither that result nor an IP rating supplies a cross-brand reliability ranking.
- If repair access matters most: the Fold8 teardown offers concrete repairability evidence, but its provisional 4/10 score and the reported parts uncertainty are reasons to verify local service before purchase. The cited sources do not offer equivalent teardown comparisons for the other named models.
