Why Floorp 12.19 turns off Nova
Mozilla’s Firefox 157 introduces Nova, a modernized interface spanning toolbars, the sidebar, menus and individual features. Firefox’s release notes also describe built-in light and dark themes and a compact mode that reduces toolbar and tab spacing. Floorp’s September 30, 2026 release notes say the project disables Nova in Floorp 12.19.0. They do not describe the decision as permanent: Floorp says it does not yet know how long Mozilla will keep the previous interface available. Floorp v12.19.0 release notes
In practical terms, this release takes the Firefox 157 browser base without adopting Nova’s visible interface. The release notes describe compatibility work for sessions, Split View, colors and private containers, but do not provide independent performance measurements or a comparative usability study.

What the Firefox 157 base changes—and what may look different
Floorp says it adjusted its compatibility with Firefox 157 for sessions, Split View, colors and private containers. Separately, it moved 25 options that had been available only with Lepton-based designs into shared Chrome Extras settings. Those controls can now be used with designs such as Proton and Fluerial, and existing Lepton settings are carried over during an update. Floorp v12.19.0 release notes
Interface transitions can affect how customization appears. Mozilla’s theme guidance says themes continue to load and most color and image properties still work, although some properties change placement or appearance. Themes built around background images are more likely to need review. Floorp likewise cautions that some of its design options or customization features may be temporarily unavailable or display inconsistently during Firefox interface changes. Language selection
The update fixes an issue that could make Floorp return to English after an update even when another language was selected. Floorp now requests a language pack compatible with the current Firefox version. Floorp v12.19.0 release notes
Web Apps on macOS
Floorp improved the launching of Web Apps it creates from Finder and the Dock. If a macOS quarantine attribute prevents a generated app from launching, Floorp removes the attribute from that generated app only; the change does not alter quarantine settings for downloaded files generally. Existing Web Apps move to the updated launch method when their launchers refresh. Floorp v12.19.0 release notes
Experimental native App Shim
Floorp is also testing a native App Shim that can give a Web App its own macOS app window and Dock identity. The release notes say the experiment covers 20% of macOS users through Floorp Flasco; the feature remains disabled outside that test and is not ready for general use.
