Fliproom turns two room layouts into an ordered visual checklist showing what stays put, what moves, and what goes into storage. It is a small software demonstration built around fictional venue content—not a real venue deployment or a validated system for managing operational safety.
What Fliproom does
In a September 21, 2026 DEV Community post, Zackary Loevseth describes Fliproom as a Sanity Challenge Path Two submission. A volunteer selects a current layout and a next layout; the planner compares them and presents the changes needed to get from one to the other. The example venue, The Commons, is fictional: a 12-by-8-metre room with eight equipment items and three layouts—Workshop, Presentation, and Open floor. Loevseth explicitly says the project does not represent a real venue or customer deployment. Read the project write-up.

How layout data becomes move instructions
The central design idea is to generate instructions from the same records that describe the room, rather than maintain a separate set of manually written move directions. Equipment records contain dimensions. Layouts refer to equipment and store each item’s placement coordinates and orientation. Sanity GROQ resolves those relationships into input for the planner.
That approach links the visual plan to the instructions: a move refers to the same equipment represented on the floor plan. If a piece of equipment occupies the same placement in both layouts, it can be shown as staying; if its placement changes, the planner can describe the move; and if it is absent from the destination layout, it can be identified for storage. In this model, changing layout content also changes the basis for the generated checklist.

What the planner shows during a changeover
Floor plan and comparison views
The interface combines numbered furniture on a floor plan with before-and-after views. The numbers connect the equipment shown in the room to the related instruction, so a volunteer can orient themselves visually while following the list.
Ordered moves and dependencies
The move list accounts for prerequisites. A move can be locked until its destination has been cleared, helping make an obstruction visible before the dependent item is moved. When two items need to exchange positions, the planner may insert a temporary parking move so one item can be moved out of the way before the other takes its place.

Checklist state and export
Loevseth reports that checked items persist through a browser reload, while selecting different layouts resets the checklist. Instructions can also be downloaded as text. These behaviors are useful for following a particular transition, but the reset means a new layout pair starts a fresh checklist rather than carrying completion state forward.

What the project reports—and what those numbers mean
The post reports 12 published Sanity documents for this project: one room, eight equipment items, and three layouts. It also reports 21 tests, typechecking, production and static-export builds, browser behavior using live Sanity content, a seven-move text checklist, and testing at a 390px viewport. These are project checks reported by the author, not independently reproduced results or industry benchmarks.

The application is described as built with Next.js, TypeScript, React, and Sanity. Its public planner is hosted on GitHub Pages, and the post says it makes no model calls at runtime. The available evidence describes this particular demonstration; it does not establish a general performance result or broader operational validation.

Fliproom’s geometry checks cover rectangular equipment footprints and room boundaries. They do not assess whether an item can be carried along a particular route, how it should be lifted, or whether a move is safe at a venue. A valid placement on a floor plan therefore does not establish that a real-world move is feasible or safe.

The planner also assumes outside storage is available when temporary in-room parking will not fit. Its time estimates are fixed values per equipment operation, not timings measured during real changeovers. The post describes a deliberately small planning aid, so its generated sequence should not be treated as an on-site safety procedure or a prediction of actual labor time.

Why the content approach matters
Room-changeover directions can drift from a floor plan when layouts and instructions are maintained separately. Fliproom demonstrates a different arrangement: store the room, equipment, and layout placements as structured content, then derive the visual comparison and move list from those records. That makes the content model the source of both what the planner displays and the sequence it proposes.
The example is most useful as a demonstration of that relationship—not as proof that the approach is ready for a particular venue. Anyone adapting the idea would still need to verify physical access, transport paths, handling methods, storage availability, and local safety procedures outside the planner.
