Fizz is worth comparing with other Canadian carriers only after you check whether its network and plan fit the places you use your phone, the data you need, and the price you will actually keep paying. Compare plans on the same coverage territory and data allowance, then verify service at your home, workplace, and regular routes. Fizz’s coverage map is approximate, and national coverage statistics cannot predict reception at a particular address or inside a building.
How to make a fair Fizz-versus-carrier comparison
Choose the other carriers based on where you live and travel, then compare specific plans rather than brand reputations. A plan with a lower advertised price is not necessarily a better value if it includes less data, covers a smaller area, requires autopay, or shows a temporary promotional rate.

- Set the geography. Decide whether you need service only in your province, across Canada, or in Canada and the U.S. Compare plans with the same territory.
- Estimate your data use. Use your recent bills or phone settings to find typical monthly use. Match the allowance as closely as possible and check what happens when high-speed data is used up.
- Check the places that matter. Review each carrier’s map for your home, work, school, and frequent routes. Ask people who use the network locally or test service where possible; a map is a screening tool, not a reception guarantee.
- Verify network and device fit. Confirm the plan’s 5G or LTE access, device compatibility requirements, and any SIM or activation conditions.
- Compare the continuing cost. Record the regular monthly price, promotion end date, autopay conditions, taxes and fees, and any device financing or contract terms.
For each plan, keep a dated record of the province or address served, local coverage, technology and device requirements, monthly high-speed data, rollover or sharing rules, included calling and texting territory, roaming, partner-network conditions, price, and payment terms. The CRTC’s consumer guidance also recommends comparing plans on their included services and conditions: CRTC guidance on comparing mobile plans.
Where Fizz is available—and what its coverage choices mean
Fizz says its mobile service is available in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. Its subscription eligibility and plan coverage are separate questions: eligibility determines where you can sign up, while the coverage option determines where the plan’s included calls, texts, and data apply. Fizz offers provincial, Canada-wide, and Canada + U.S. coverage options. A provincial plan does not automatically include use elsewhere in Canada. Fizz’s Quebec option also includes Ottawa, according to its partner-network FAQ. Check the current details before choosing: Fizz’s coverage and subscription FAQ.

Fizz’s coverage map displays Fizz 5G and LTE areas as well as extended partner coverage. Fizz cautions that mapped areas are approximate and that actual reception can vary. Terrain, buildings, device capability, and local conditions can affect service, so a colored map area should not be read as a promise of indoor signal or consistent performance on every route.
How Fizz partner-network access works
When Fizz’s own network is unavailable, a phone may connect automatically to an available partner network. The phone displays “Fizz EXT” while connected this way. Fizz describes partner coverage as intended for occasional use: most usage must take place on the Fizz network. If a customer primarily uses partner networks for three consecutive billing periods, Fizz says it may restrict or suspend access. These terms matter if your home, work, or regular travel is outside Fizz’s own coverage; partner access should not be treated as a substitute for broad native coverage. See Fizz’s explanation of coverage and partner networks.

Compare data, plan terms, and the real monthly price
Fizz describes its mobile plans as prepaid and customizable, with choices for data, minutes and texts, and coverage territory. A compatible phone is required, and Fizz’s plan page says an activated Fizz SIM is required. Offers and rates can change and may differ by province, so check the live configurator for your location rather than relying on an old quoted price. Fizz describes its plans as no-obligation; review the current terms on its mobile plan page.

- Data: monthly high-speed allowance, any reduced-speed or pay-per-use terms after it is used, and whether unused data rolls over or can be shared. Include rollover or sharing only when the carrier’s current terms confirm it.
- Calling and texting: included territory, such as provincial, Canada-wide, or Canada + U.S. service. Do not assume a local plan includes calls or use elsewhere.
- Roaming and partner access: which destinations are covered, whether use is included or separately charged, and any restrictions on how much time or usage can be spent on partner networks.
- Price: regular recurring rate, promotion length, eligibility, autopay requirements, taxes, and fees. Compare the post-promotion price with the other plan’s ongoing rate.
- Payment and device conditions: prepaid or postpaid billing, contract obligations, and device financing. A low service price may not represent the total cost if a phone payment is separate.
The CRTC’s published market prices are point-in-time figures, not live quotes. Its methodology says consumer prices are collected as publicly available on December 1 for the relevant collection year, and it identifies Fizz as a Videotron flanker brand. Treat that dataset as historical market context, not as the price available when you sign up: CRTC market-report methodology.
What national coverage and price statistics can—and cannot—tell you
The CRTC reported that 5G networks were available to 94% of Canada’s population in its 2026 Canadian Telecommunications Market Report. Rural and First Nations reserve coverage lagged the national average, and the report recorded no 5G coverage in the Territories. Those are population-level figures, not evidence that a particular carrier serves a specific address. The CRTC also said it was conducting a 2026 proceeding to establish a mobile coverage reporting standard because identifying coverage gaps remains a challenge. Use the statistics as national context, then check carrier-specific maps and local service. CRTC 2026 Canadian Telecommunications Market Report.

The same report gives historical price context: 10 GB and 100 GB plan prices decreased 2% to 3%, while 50 GB plan prices increased 1.5%—CRTC, 2024 (reported in the 2026 Canadian Telecommunications Market Report). It also reports that the three largest mobile operators accounted for 90% of Canada’s national market in 2024, while new competitors accounted for over 55% of subscribers added that year. These figures describe the market at the stated time; they do not establish which current plan is cheapest or best for an individual user.

Fizz may suit you if
- Your address and regular routes have suitable Fizz coverage, and you do not need to rely primarily on partner networks.
- The coverage territory and data allowance available for your province match how you travel and use your phone.
- You want a prepaid plan with configurable data, calling and texting, and coverage choices, and you have a compatible phone.
Compare alternatives closely if
- You regularly use your phone in areas where Fizz coverage depends on a partner network, because partner access is subject to occasional-use and majority-on-Fizz-network conditions.
- You need service in a province, territory, or destination not included in the coverage option you are considering.
- A competing plan offers a more suitable local network, data amount, roaming terms, or ongoing price after promotions and conditions are accounted for.
No national population statistic or carrier-wide label can settle the choice. The useful comparison is between current plans that fit the same geography and data needs, checked against the places you actually use your phone.
