If YouTube Live Control Room reports audioSampleRateMismatch, make the audio sample rates on your primary and backup streams identical. In FFmpeg, set the encoded output rate with -ar 44100 or -ar 48000 before the relevant output destination, then verify the rate actually being sent. Choose a rate that also satisfies the exact warning shown in Live Control Room.
What the warning means
YouTube’s audioSampleRateMismatch issue means the primary and backup streams have different audio sample rates. It is not simply a report that your source file has an unexpected rate: YouTube is flagging the relationship between the two streams it receives.

Keep this distinct from audioSampleRate, which concerns the sample rate itself. YouTube’s Live Streaming API issue table lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended rates. YouTube Help’s example dashboard error, however, asks for 44.1 kHz. Read the wording of your own warning rather than assuming that 48 kHz is always the fix.
Fix the FFmpeg output rate
- Read the exact warning. In YouTube Live Control Room, note whether it says
audioSampleRateMismatchor reports an audio sample-rate issue. The first points to unequal primary and backup rates; the exact text of the second can specify a rate to use. - Check both encoded outputs. If you send a primary and backup stream, determine the audio rate each FFmpeg path actually encodes. Do not infer it from the input file alone; encoding options, filters, or output configuration can affect the transmitted output.
- Set the output option. Add
-ar 44100or-ar 48000to the relevant FFmpeg output options before that output destination. For example, the option pattern isffmpeg [input options] -i INPUT [other output options] -ar 44100 OUTPUT. Replace the bracketed items andINPUT/OUTPUTwith your actual input, settings, and destination; this pattern is not a complete ingest command. - Apply the same choice to both paths. Configure the primary and backup encoders to output the same rate. Select 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz according to the warning and the rest of your stream configuration, not by assuming one rate is universally correct.
- Verify and recheck. Confirm the encoded output rate on both paths, then check Live Control Room again. YouTube’s dashboard shows health messages with timestamps; an unresolved message can continue to appear.
Choosing between 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz
- If the warning explicitly asks for 44.1 kHz, use 44.1 kHz on both streams.
- If the issue is a primary-versus-backup mismatch and does not specify a rate, choose a rate suitable for your stream and set both outputs to exactly that rate.
- Check that the FFmpeg output setting matches the rate actually encoded; adding
-arwithout verifying the result does not establish that both paths match.
Common causes and checks
- Only one FFmpeg path was changed: the primary and backup still differ. Set and verify the output rate independently on each path.
- The source rate was mistaken for the transmitted rate: inspect the encoded outputs rather than relying on source-file properties.
- The wrong warning was acted on: distinguish the mismatch issue from a warning about the rate itself, and follow the exact message in Live Control Room.
- The warning remains visible: check its timestamp and confirm both output rates again. YouTube says an unfixed health message continues to appear in the dashboard.
