Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection status, then read the time-stamped health messages in YouTube Live Control Room. If those show ingest trouble, measure sustained outbound capacity from the actual VPS and adjust the stream settings to fit it. If both are healthy and only some viewers buffer, investigate their playback conditions and the stream’s latency setting instead.
Identify where the YouTube Live stream buffering starts
Run a controlled test and watch OBS and YouTube Live Control Room at the same time. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide describes network dropped frames as a sign of an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. YouTube’s live error guide says the dashboard surfaces ingest problems, including inadequate bandwidth, incorrect bitrate and keyframes sent too infrequently. These signals help narrow the fault; neither one alone proves a wider OVHcloud or India network problem.

- OBS reports rising network drops or disconnects: investigate the outbound path from the VPS, available upload capacity and configured bitrate.
- YouTube reports ingest errors: note the exact message and time, then address the named issue—such as bandwidth, bitrate or keyframe frequency.
- OBS and YouTube source health look clean, but some viewers buffer: compare affected viewers’ networks and devices, and check whether the selected latency mode leaves too little buffer for variable connections.

Measure sustained upload capacity from the VPS
The stream’s total bitrate must fit within sustained upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% additional bandwidth headroom; account for both primary and backup streams if you send both. For example, if the combined stream bitrate is 10 Mbps, the recommendation implies at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity. This is a planning margin, not a guarantee that a particular route will remain stable.

Measure from the actual VPS, preferably with repeated observations representative of the broadcast and, where possible, toward the relevant destination. A brief speed-test peak or the port speed shown on a VPS plan does not establish sustained throughput from that instance to YouTube’s ingest service. Other traffic sharing the connection can also reduce available capacity.
OVHcloud’s network diagnostics guide describes speed, route and latency tools. Use those results alongside measurements from the VPS: a probe elsewhere on OVHcloud’s network may not reproduce the instance’s exact path to YouTube. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth headroom and shared connections.
Match OBS output to YouTube’s recommendations and the measured route
Choose a resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate that the VPS can sustain—not just the highest setting the encoder permits. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution and frame rate. For H.264, its table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Those are encoder-setting recommendations, not evidence that your VPS route can carry either bitrate reliably. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings guidance for the exact format you intend to send.

YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS ingest, with H.264, H.265 and AV1 options, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Follow the codec and protocol requirements for your chosen workflow. If measured capacity is insufficient, reduce bitrate or resolution and test again rather than relying on a speed-test peak.
- Use the resolution and frame rate you actually need; higher frame rates and resolutions can require more bitrate.
- Set bitrate within the sustained capacity measured from the VPS, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for explicit keyframe or bitrate errors and correct the encoder settings they identify.
- Before going live, test with representative movement and audio, then monitor stream health during the test.
Choose latency for the audience, not just the fastest response
YouTube explains that read-ahead buffer is a principal source of stream latency: less buffer means greater sensitivity to variation between encoder and player. Normal latency is the safer starting point for non-interactive broadcasts and is described by YouTube as the setting with the lowest viewer buffering. Choose low latency when limited interaction matters, and ultra-low latency when real-time interaction is important enough to accept greater buffering risk.
YouTube says most low-latency viewers experience latency under 10 seconds and most ultra-low-latency viewers under five seconds. These describe the latency modes, not a guarantee of playback speed or stability for every viewer. Compare the audience experience after changing the setting. See YouTube’s latency guidance.

Verify the VPS region and route; do not assume the server is in India
OVHcloud’s India VPS page says it has no datacentres in India and serves the market from nearby regions. Check the physical region of your specific VPS rather than inferring it from the sales page or your location. The page also lists plan-level bandwidth and traffic terms, including Asia-Pacific exceptions; confirm the selected region’s current terms when ordering.

Combine these with measurements from the VPS itself. They can provide context about a route or network, but they do not establish performance to YouTube ingest from your individual instance. Plan bandwidth terms likewise do not guarantee stable throughput on that path.
Buying or changing VPS hosting is not, by itself, a demonstrated buffering fix. If comparing regions or providers, compare the verified physical region, measured route to the ingest endpoint, sustained outbound performance at the time of use and the applicable plan terms; there is no basis here to rank providers by route quality.
