If a YouTube Live broadcast stops advancing after its first scheduled block, check the software producing the live feed before looking for a playlist-rotation switch in YouTube Studio. YouTube schedules the broadcast and receives an encoder feed; the media source or encoder controls whether that feed continues through its files. If you use OBS, the right fix depends on whether your block is one file or a playlist of several.
First, identify what is stopping
A scheduled YouTube Live stream and the media playing inside its feed are separate parts of the setup. YouTube Help documents scheduling a broadcast and connecting an encoder with a stream URL and stream key, but the cited instructions do not establish a YouTube Studio setting that rotates scheduled playlist blocks. The source software is therefore the first place to investigate—not a confirmed diagnosis of every setup. See YouTube’s streaming setup instructions and encoder-stream guidance.

At the moment the first block ends, check two things: does the media source continue playing, and does the encoder continue sending a live feed? If the source stops, investigate its playlist or loop settings. If the encoder feed continues but the broadcast ends or loses connection, inspect the live stream state and encoder connection in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring stream quality during a broadcast.

These steps apply when OBS is producing the feed. They are not universal YouTube settings; the exact source software and the meaning of “scheduled block” can vary.

Several files in an ordered playlist: VLC Video
- In OBS, select the scene used for the live output and open the properties for its VLC Video source.
- Check that every intended media file is present and in the desired order.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS describes this option as restarting the source after it has run out of media files.
- Confirm the source is active and visible in the scene used for the broadcast. Review its visibility behavior: OBS documents options to stop playback when the source is not visible and to restart it when visible, so a scene change can affect playback.
- Save the properties, then observe the source and outgoing feed through the point where the first block previously ended.
The VLC source is available only when VLC is installed. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS media sources documentation.
One local file: Media Source
- Open the properties for the OBS Media Source containing the file.
- Enable Loop. This is a separate control from VLC Video’s Loop Playlist; it repeats the single file when playback completes.
- Make sure the source is active in the scene used for the live output, then observe playback through the file’s ending.
Check the boundary before changing other settings
Watch the source and the outgoing encoder feed when the first block ends. If the media source stops, recheck the file list, the relevant loop control, and whether the source remained visible. If the source continues but the encoder stops sending, investigate the encoder connection. If the encoder continues sending but YouTube’s broadcast ends, check the broadcast state and preview in Live Control Room. This distinction helps avoid changing a working playlist setting when the actual failure is in the connection or broadcast.

What YouTube playlist controls do—and do not do
- Watch-page playlist Loop: a viewer can use Loop in the YouTube playlist box to repeat playback for themselves. It does not configure the media playlist inside a live encoder feed. See YouTube’s playlist help.
- Scheduled live stream: scheduling creates a broadcast event and the encoder connects to it. The cited YouTube setup documentation does not establish that a scheduled event rotates through source files or automatically starts another block.
- Automatic archive: YouTube says encoder-created streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. That describes what happens after a stream ends; it does not restart media playback or keep the live feed running.
If you want the YouTube stream to keep running without a home computer
For OBS, first correct the source loop and verify the encoder feed at the block boundary. If you instead want uploaded videos to run continuously from the cloud, StreamNeo is an option for YouTube: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the feed running from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
