Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA Chennai VPS does not guarantee that YouTube video will come from a nearby cache or travel over a short, uncongested route. First compare playback at a lower quality and over a genuinely different connection. If buffering follows the VPS, collect time-stamped route, packet-loss and sustained-throughput evidence, then ask the VPS provider to investigate its upstream path and peering. The title alone does not reveal whether YouTube is playing on the VPS or the VPS is relaying a stream to someone else, so identify that setup before changing anything.
First identify where YouTube is playing
There are two materially different situations:
- YouTube plays in a browser on the VPS: playback depends on the VPS’s network route to Google’s video-serving infrastructure, as well as the browser and playback settings.
- The VPS relays or forwards video to a separate viewer: there are two network legs to consider—the VPS-to-YouTube leg and the VPS-to-viewer leg. Test each leg separately where possible; a viewer-side problem is not proof of a fault in the Chennai VPS route.
Record the VPS provider and location, how playback is being viewed, the affected video, selected quality, date and time, and whether buffering is constant or intermittent. No provider, IP address, operating system, route trace or throughput measurement is specified here, so these checks can narrow the cause but cannot establish a fault in an individual VPS.

Try YouTube’s playback checks first
- Manually lower or select playback quality. Compare the same video at a lower setting with the setting that buffers. If the lower setting plays smoothly, the connection may not sustain the higher stream reliably; this alone does not identify where the limitation lies.
- Try a genuinely different internet connection. Keep the video and, as far as practical, playback quality the same. YouTube recommends changing connections and adjusting playback quality when videos buffer or load poorly. If the symptom occurs only on the VPS connection, investigate that route; if it occurs on both, the VPS is less likely to be the only factor. YouTube’s playback troubleshooting guidance includes these checks.
- Repeat at the times when the problem normally occurs. Note whether the same video and quality behave differently at another time. A brief successful playback or a generic speed-test result does not establish that the route to YouTube is healthy throughout a buffering period.
When the VPS appears to be the problem
Build evidence the provider can investigate
- Write down the date and time, video, selected quality and symptom. Distinguish continuous buffering from brief interruptions or buffering limited to particular hours.
- Compare the VPS with another network or VPS location if available, using the same video and quality. This helps show whether the problem follows one connection or location; it does not by itself identify a particular network fault.
- During the buffering period, collect route and packet-loss measurements to relevant Google or YouTube endpoints, along with sustained throughput observations. Include timestamps and the endpoint tested. A single ping is not enough to identify which YouTube cache served a request or prove application performance.
- Ask the VPS provider to investigate outbound congestion, packet loss, transit and peering on the affected route, and whether the instance’s public IP or prefix is announced or routed in a way that changes that path. These are questions to check, not established defects in an unnamed provider.
Interpret ping and routes cautiously
Google says it does not use ICMP ping latency to select a serving location because ping latency does not accurately represent application performance. Its selection considers overall application performance as the most important factor, alongside demand, available serving capacity, maintenance, legal requirements and DNS resolver configuration. A low ping therefore does not prove that YouTube is using a local cache or that video delivery is healthy; a high ping alone does not prove that the video path is faulty. See Google’s Content Served documentation.
Route traces and packet-loss observations can help a provider investigate a path, but they do not necessarily reveal the exact serving location for a video request. Pair them with sustained throughput observations and a reproducible playback comparison rather than treating one measurement as a complete diagnosis.

Why a Chennai VPS may still buffer
The city shown for a VPS is not a guarantee about where a particular YouTube video is served from or the quality of the route to it. Google describes high-volume, cacheable YouTube traffic as potentially served by a local Google Global Cache node or from Google’s core locations over peering and transit. The serving choice is made at Google’s discretion based on overall application performance, demand, capacity, maintenance, legal requirements and DNS resolver configuration (Google Content Served documentation).
Google’s Media CDN cache-location page lists Chennai as a location and notes that active points of presence can change without notice. That documents Google edge presence in the city; it does not establish that a particular YouTube request from a particular VPS uses that point of presence, or that every requested video is cached there. Google’s peering infrastructure information explains that edge points of presence connect Google’s network with the wider internet through peering and that Google Global Cache nodes can temporarily cache popular content inside ISP networks. It does not disclose the route or peering arrangement of an unnamed VPS provider.

Google Cloud’s supported-provider list names DE-CIX and Equinix in Chennai for Cloud Interconnect (supported service providers). This is evidence about Cloud Interconnect options, not evidence that a particular VPS host uses either provider or has a specific route to YouTube.
Check whether Google has reported a regional incident
If the issue is regional or began at a particular time, consult Google’s current service-health records. Google Cloud documented intermittent elevated latency and possible packet loss affecting traffic from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and surrounding areas in June 2026. Its incident record says recovery was completed on June 26, 2026 PDT; it also describes augmentation of out-of-region Internet Edge peering capacity in Chennai. This is historical context, not proof of the cause of buffering now or on any individual VPS. See Google Cloud Service Health’s incident record.

What to send your VPS provider
Keep the support request specific and reproducible. Include:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- the VPS region and public IP or prefix, shared privately with the provider;
- timestamps with time zone, affected video and selected playback quality;
- what happens at a lower quality and on a different connection;
- time-stamped route and packet-loss observations, plus sustained throughput measurements made during the symptom;
- whether the issue is limited to a time window and whether another location or provider behaves differently.
Ask the provider to check congestion, loss, transit, peering and any route changes affecting the instance’s outbound path. Compare providers or locations using sustained throughput to YouTube during affected hours, packet loss and route stability, upstream transit and peering, and IP/prefix routing. Without measurements for those providers, a Chennai label or a named interconnection is not enough to recommend a host or promise that switching will fix playback.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the underlying need is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube channel live around the clock, rather than to repair browser playback on this VPS, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded video, not a camera broadcast, and it does not diagnose a VPS-to-YouTube playback route. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
