Apple calls the feature Siri AI (Beta): it uses Visual Intelligence to search, answer questions, or take an action based on what the camera sees. It is different from asking ordinary Siri to take a photo. Apple does not publish an official 11-step Camera-mode repair sequence; the checks below group its documented eligibility and Siri troubleshooting guidance by symptom.
Start by identifying what is failing
Use the symptom to choose where to begin:
- Siri mode is missing: check device eligibility, iOS version, language, and region.
- The Camera entry does not open it: try the Camera app route, then check Camera Control settings if using that button.
- Siri opens but does not listen or answer: check Siri activation, internet access, and another activation method.
- Siri answers silently: adjust Siri’s response setting.
Check eligibility and availability
1. Confirm the iPhone model is supported
Apple says Siri AI in Camera requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later. If your phone is outside that supported group, a settings change cannot make this feature available. Check the model under Settings > General > About and compare it with Apple’s current Siri AI: Use Siri mode in Camera on iPhone guidance.

2. Check iOS and the feature’s current availability
Apple describes Siri AI as a beta feature in iOS 27 and later. Having iOS 27 alone does not guarantee access: the phone must also meet the hardware requirements, and availability can depend on rollout conditions. Check Settings > General > Software Update for an available update and consult Apple’s current feature guidance rather than assuming every eligible phone has the feature enabled.
3. Check language and region
Apple’s guide says availability depends on supported language and region. Its stated initial availability is English, and it says the feature will not initially be available in the EU on iOS. These are rollout qualifications, not a permanent availability list; check Apple’s current page for changes. Confirm the device and Siri languages meet the requirements shown there.

Open Siri mode and check its controls
4. Launch it from the Camera app
Open Camera, tap Siri, then point the camera at the object or scene you want Siri to interpret. The visual context is part of the interaction. This is the direct Camera route described by Apple; it is not the same as invoking standard Siri and asking it to take a picture.
5. Check Camera Control configuration
On supported models, clicking and holding Camera Control is another way to enter the feature. If that gesture does not work, check Settings > Camera > Camera Control and review whether the button is set for a single or double click. This check applies only to iPhones with Camera Control. You can still try the Camera app’s Siri entry if available.

Troubleshoot listening and responses
6. Make sure Siri is enabled
Open Settings and look for Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri; the label can vary by software version. Turn Siri on and complete any setup prompts. Apple’s general troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that Siri is enabled when it will not activate.

Apple Support states in “Turn on and activate Siri on iPhone”: “You must be connected to the internet to use Siri.” Confirm the iPhone is online by loading a webpage or using another network. A connection check can identify a local connectivity problem, but it cannot establish or fix a service-side or beta issue.

8. Recheck the wake phrase and voice setup
If you use voice activation, confirm that “Siri” or “Hey Siri” is enabled in Siri settings. If it is already enabled but Siri does not respond to your voice, Apple recommends turning the listening option off and back on, then repeating the voice setup prompts.
9. Try a different activation method
On an iPhone with Face ID, press and hold the side button to activate Siri. If available, you can also try Type to Siri. If either method works while the wake phrase does not, that points to a voice-activation problem rather than proving that Camera mode or device eligibility is at fault.

10. Check spoken responses and install available updates
If Siri appears to respond but you cannot hear it, open Siri settings and set Siri Responses to Prefer Spoken Responses. Also install an available iOS update if one is offered; Apple recommends updating software when Siri setup or use is not working properly.
11. Restart, then check VPN settings only if Siri controls are missing
Restart the iPhone if Siri settings or controls are unexpectedly absent. Apple notes that some VPN profiles may prevent Siri settings from appearing after a restart. If the iPhone is managed by an employer or school, do not remove a VPN profile without first checking with its administrator; this is a conditional check, not a routine fix for Camera mode.

Use Voice Control as an accessibility alternative
While diagnosing Siri, Apple’s built-in Voice Control can let you interact with iPhone controls using spoken commands and gestures. Commands vary by app and language; see Apple’s “Use Voice Control to interact with iPhone” guide. Voice Control is an alternative interaction method, not a way to enable Siri AI Camera mode on an unsupported device.
