The bank portal, test code, and timeout configuration are unspecified, so there is no safe universal timeout duration or single fix. Use the checks below to identify what happened in your authorized test environment.

Check which page Playwright captured
Record the URL just before capture, then assert a stable page element that identifies the authenticated view your test expects. Use a signal appropriate to the approved test account and portal; the example names below are illustrative, not claims about any particular bank.

- If the URL is a login or timeout route, inspect redirects and session validity; the screenshot may accurately show the page the browser reached.
- If the URL is still the expected route but the page signal is missing, inspect the UI state and network activity. The page may be loading, showing an error, or rendering differently than the test expects.
- If both checks pass but the image still looks wrong, inspect the capture and trace for rendering or timing issues.
Playwright provides URL waits and recommends waiting on meaningful page conditions rather than relying on arbitrary delays. Locator assertions wait for their conditions, making them more useful than a fixed sleep for checking whether an expected element appeared. See the Page API and locator guidance.
Check how the test gets authenticated
Playwright authentication state can be saved and reused in a browser context, but saved state does not guarantee that the portal will still accept it later. Confirm that the authorized setup flow completed, that the state was saved after reaching an authenticated page, and that the test is not reusing state after the portal has expired or invalidated it. When the state expires, renew it through the permitted login flow and replace the old state as appropriate. The portal determines its own session lifetime; Playwright’s guide does not establish one for this bank portal.
Authentication state can include cookies and headers capable of impersonating the account. Keep state files out of source control, restrict access to them, and handle them as secrets. The official Playwright authentication guide describes saving and reusing state and warns about protecting it.

Verify the storage mechanism instead of guessing
Do not assume a stored state file covers every mechanism an application may use. Playwright documents storage-state handling for cookies and supported origin storage, and separately notes that sessionStorage is domain-specific, is not persisted across page loads, and has no built-in persistence API in the authentication guide. If authorized evidence shows the portal depends on sessionStorage, use the guide’s save-and-restore pattern for the correct origin and test account. Do not add sessionStorage handling speculatively.

Use a trace to locate the failure
A trace can help establish whether the test navigated to a timeout page, received a rejected request, used stale state, or captured before the intended UI appeared. Enable tracing for the failing run or capture it on the first retry in CI, then inspect the action timeline, DOM snapshots, screenshots, and network events leading up to the capture. Playwright’s Trace Viewer documentation explains how to inspect traces and recommends them for CI debugging.

Trace archives may contain sensitive page data. Review them and stored authentication state before sharing or uploading either artifact; redact or restrict access as required by your organization.
Fix the cause without weakening the bank’s controls
If the session has expired, reauthenticate through the test flow the bank or your organization permits, or request an approved test account and session arrangement suitable for the test. Do not disable the portal timeout, replay another person’s cookies, or use real customer credentials as a workaround.
Indian Bank’s 24 July 2024 cyber-security audit RFP includes checks for session termination after a relative timeout and for cookie controls. Playwright notes that operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, and headless mode can affect screenshot rendering. Treat those as a separate line of investigation when the page is correct but its appearance varies; they are not a substitute for checking the URL and authentication state.
