First find out which signal is late: OBS’s audio monitor, a local recording of the stream output, or the YouTube replay. A lagging monitor alone does not mean viewers hear delayed audio. If the recorded output is out of sync, test the same local file in OBS Media Source; for an ordered playlist, check VLC Video’s playlist and playback settings. There is no single documented setting that fixes every OBS playlist delay, and the reported symptoms vary by system.
Identify where the delay occurs
Before changing the playlist, note your operating system, OBS version, source type (Media Source or VLC Video), whether the files are local or network streams, and which signal seems late. Then compare three outputs:

- OBS audio monitoring: Listen through the monitoring device and note whether the sound seems late relative to the video.
- A local recording: Record a short sample in OBS and play it back. This helps determine whether the program output itself is out of sync rather than only the monitor path.
- The YouTube replay: If the concern is what viewers hear, inspect the replay too. A monitor symptom does not establish that the stream or recording has the same problem.
OBS issue reports show that monitoring and program output can behave differently. They are user reports from specific older setups, not controlled tests or evidence that the same behavior will occur on your system.

OBS documents VLC Video’s Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default. Its documented default visibility behavior is to stop when the source is not visible and restart when it becomes visible. The guide also lists 400 ms network caching and audio track 1 as defaults. These are documented defaults, not proof that changing any one of them will fix a delay. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.

Test the playlist and isolate the cause
- For one local file, compare sources. If the file is supported, test it in Media Source and check its Loop property. This comparison can help isolate whether the symptom is specific to the VLC Video path, though it does not replace VLC Video when you need a multi-file playlist.
- For a playlist, verify VLC Video settings. Check the file order, make sure Loop Playlist matches your intended playback, and review shuffle and visibility behavior. If a source is hidden or changes visibility, the documented visibility behavior may stop and restart playback.
- Use a short recording to compare results. Keep the same file and scene, then compare the monitor output with the local recording and YouTube replay. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which change affects which signal.
- Record your setup details. If the issue remains, keep the OBS version, OS, source type, file origin, and observed delay together. Those details matter because reports describe different symptoms on different systems.
What reported OBS delays do—and do not—show
- A Windows 11 user running OBS 30.1.2 reported VLC Video Source output nearly three seconds behind the same source’s monitor output, and said the same local music file had no delay in Media Source. This is one user’s report, not a general VLC delay or an independently reproduced measurement: OBS Studio issue 10480.
- A macOS 13 user running OBS 29.1.3 reported lagging local monitor controls after playlist playback, while saying the stream, mixer levels, and recordings updated immediately. That example illustrates why a monitor-path symptom should not automatically be treated as a viewer-facing delay: OBS Studio issue 8958.
- An older Windows 10 report concerning OBS 25.0.8 and 26.0.0-rc1 describes mixed audio/video and monitoring anomalies during VLC playlist transitions. Its age and specific configuration make it historical context, not a diagnosis for current versions: OBS Studio issue 3019.
These issue reports do not establish how often the problem occurs, whether it reproduces in current OBS versions, or which setting fixes it across systems.
Check connection symptoms separately
If OBS shows increasing dropped frames or a yellow or red connection indicator, check the connection and bitrate path to YouTube as a separate problem. OBS says these signs indicate that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate; they do not by themselves prove an audio-sync cause. Follow the OBS dropped-frames and network-connection guidance rather than treating connection trouble as the explanation for every playlist delay.

Keep Malayalam content separate from playback timing
The available OBS playback guidance and issue reports address media sources and stream troubleshooting, not Malayalam language encoding, typography, transliteration, or YouTube metadata. There is no evidence here that Malayalam itself causes audio delay. If the stream contains Malayalam speech or text, investigate a language-specific problem separately unless you have a concrete symptom linking it to playback timing.
