To fix OBS audio crackling, first find where the distortion begins: in the source, the local OBS recording, or the YouTube stream. Then check audio format and stream errors; reduce PC load or adjust network settings only when the evidence points there. No single setting fixes every cause, and a low-end Indian PC may not sustain an unattended 24/7 stream without testing.
Find where the crackling starts
Compare the same audio at each stage before changing settings. YouTube recommends checking the encoder’s audio, CPU load and encoder errors, and a local archive when stream quality is poor. Comparing those checks helps narrow down the fault; the diagnostic split below is a practical method, not a guarantee that any one stage is responsible.

- Listen to the source. Play the microphone, music file, or other source outside the live stream if possible. If it already crackles, investigate that source and its local connection or routing.
- Make a short local OBS recording. Keep the same content playing and listen back. If the source sounds clean but the recording crackles, focus on OBS capture, audio routing, devices, and local configuration.
- Compare with YouTube. Check the preview or archive. If the local recording is clean but the YouTube audio is not, inspect the output settings and YouTube stream health. A network or ingest problem may affect delivery, but it does not explain crackling already present in the local recording.
Before changing anything, note the OBS version, operating system, audio device and source, sample rates shown in the system and OBS, output audio format, and whether the stream is live. Keep a copy of the baseline recording and change one variable at a time.
Check YouTube audio settings
For stereo live output, YouTube’s published encoder settings list 44.1 kHz, an accepted AAC or MP3 audio codec, and 128 kbps. These values help avoid format incompatibility; they do not diagnose faulty hardware, drivers, or local audio routing, and they are not a universal crackling cure. YouTube’s current encoder settings page also lists 48 kHz and 384 kbps for 5.1 surround. Check the latest YouTube live encoder settings before configuring a surround stream.

- In OBS, check the audio sample rate in Settings > Audio and the output audio codec and bitrate in Settings > Output. Match the stereo output to YouTube’s listed settings.
- If you use a backup stream, verify that its sample rate matches the primary stream.
- Send one audio stream. YouTube’s error guidance warns that multiple audio streams can cause ingestion problems.
- If YouTube reports a codec or sample-rate error, correct that mismatch and test again rather than changing unrelated quality settings.
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
Reduce PC load only when performance points to it
OBS rendering and encoding use system resources, and GPU overload can cause OBS performance trouble. That does not establish GPU overload as the cause of every audio crackle. Look for performance warnings, encoder errors, unusually high CPU or GPU use, or other signs that the system is struggling during the same repeatable test.

- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
- Watch OBS’s performance indicators and CPU/GPU use while reproducing the issue.
- Close only programs you recognize and do not need during the stream.
- Simplify resource-heavy scenes if the problem coincides with rendering or encoding pressure.
- If OBS reports performance trouble, test a lower frame rate or output resolution one change at a time. Keep the original settings recorded so you can reverse changes that do not help.
OBS’s encoding performance troubleshooting guide recommends measures such as simplifying scenes and reducing output resolution or frame rate for performance problems. Apply them to crackling only if your test shows the symptoms coincide; lowering video quality without that evidence may not address the cause.

OBS identifies dropped frames as a sign of an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. YouTube advises leaving upload bandwidth headroom: its streaming tips recommend keeping total stream bitrate below available upload bandwidth and leaving room for the primary stream, backup, and overhead. The page recommends 20% upload headroom.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
- If the local recording is clean but YouTube reports stream-health or connection problems, check that the upload connection is stable and leave bandwidth headroom.
- Lower video bitrate or resolution only when connection capacity or YouTube’s stream guidance indicates it is needed. Test the effect rather than assuming this will fix audio distortion.
- If crackling is audible in the local recording, do not treat dropped frames or buffering as its explanation without further evidence.
See OBS’s dropped frames and network issues guide for connection troubleshooting. YouTube also advises choosing reliable stream quality and monitoring stream health in its streaming tips.
Validate before leaving a 24/7 stream unattended
Run a representative test using the actual audio source, scene, and typical movement. Listen to both the local recording and YouTube preview, and watch for stream-health warnings and encoder errors. If you make a change, repeat the same test so the comparison is meaningful.

Before relying on continuous operation, run a monitored longer trial under the conditions you expect to use. The official guidance recommends testing and monitoring but does not specify a universal trial duration or configuration for a low-end PC. A clean short recording alone does not establish that a computer and connection will remain stable unattended.
