Check the simplest likely cause first, change one thing at a time, and use a small test print to see whether it helped. The right settings depend on your printer, filament, nozzle, slicer profile, and printing environment; there is no single temperature or adjustment that works for every setup.
These are five common troubleshooting categories, not a measured ranking of which failures happen most often. The linked guidance comes from printer and filament makers and specialist sources, rather than controlled comparative tests.

Before changing settings: use a consistent troubleshooting sequence
- Note when the fault begins. Look at the first layer and the area where the print starts to fail. That can help separate an initial adhesion problem from a fault that develops during printing.
- Check the basics. Confirm the build plate is clean, the nozzle is clean, filament feeds freely, the slicer profile matches the printer and material, and bed leveling or mesh is working. QIDI’s troubleshooting guide includes these baseline checks.
- Choose one likely cause and change one factor. QIDI’s 3D Printing Troubleshooting Guide: Common Problems, Causes, and Fixes, dated February 24, 2024 and displayed under the byline ChloeAustin (role not specified), advises: “Make only one change at a time.” Read the guide.
- Judge the result with a small test print. If the fault continues or points to damaged hardware, use the printer maker’s support instructions rather than making unrelated slicer changes. Prusa’s motion guidance includes model-specific procedures, so follow the procedure for your own machine.
Why won’t my 3D print stick to the bed?
A print that releases early, or a first layer that looks uneven, can result from a dirty build plate, an unsuitable first-layer speed, bed leveling or mesh problems, or an incorrect Z-offset. Start by cleaning the plate and examining the first layer, then verify leveling or mesh before making a small Z-offset correction. Slowing the first layer may also help. First-layer troubleshooting guidance and QIDI’s guide discuss these checks.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Look at the shape of the deposited lines: they should meet and be slightly flattened. Lines that remain round and loose can indicate that the nozzle is too high. Excessive flattening, scraping, or ridges can indicate too much compression and may restrict flow. Avoid trying to solve adhesion by crushing the first layer; correct the setup in small increments.

Why are the corners lifting or the print warping?
Warping happens when cooling and contraction are uneven. Some materials shrink more than others, and large, flat parts can be especially vulnerable. First check plate cleanliness and the first-layer setup. If those are sound, consider whether drafts or unsuitable cooling are affecting the print, and try a brim to increase the part’s contact area with the bed. Warping guidance and QIDI’s troubleshooting guide cover these approaches.
Use the temperature profile recommended for your printer and filament, along with the filament maker’s instructions; there is no universal bed or nozzle temperature for preventing warping. A raised, warped area can also collide with the nozzle. If a layer shift appears after part of the print lifts, investigate the warping as a possible cause rather than treating the shift as an unrelated motion fault. QIDI’s guide discusses this connection.

Why are there fine strings between printed parts?
Fine strands between separate areas of a print are usually described as stringing or oozing. Possible causes include nozzle temperature that is too high for the material, retraction settings, or damp filament. Check that the filament is dry and that the slicer profile matches both the material and printer before tuning retraction or temperature. QIDI’s troubleshooting guide and its filament-drying guidance describe these possibilities.
Change one setting at a time and use a small test print so the effect is easier to assess. Strings alone do not prove that filament is damp; moisture is one possible cause, not a diagnosis. QIDI’s 2024 drying guide says nylon can absorb up to 10% of its weight in water in a humid environment. That is a vendor-published figure, not an independently validated rate for every nylon or environment. See QIDI’s explanation.

If moisture is plausible, a filament dryer may be useful, but drying temperatures and times depend on the material. Check the filament maker’s instructions before drying; QIDI also discusses alternatives such as a suitable dehydrator, oven, or desiccant storage. A dryer will not correct a dirty plate, a clogged nozzle, inappropriate retraction, or loose motion hardware. QIDI’s drying guidance and its dryer information provide more detail.
What do gaps, thin lines, or weak areas mean?
Gaps, thin deposited lines, or fragile sections can indicate under-extrusion: too little filament is reaching the print. Possible causes include a partial nozzle clog, low print temperature, tangled or resistant filament, worn extruder gears, unsuitable flow settings, or a print speed the hotend cannot sustain. Missing material can leave the finished part weak. Troubleshooting guidance, warping and print-fault guidance, and QIDI’s guide cover under-extrusion and related checks.

Start by checking the filament path and nozzle before changing flow or calibration settings. If the filament is tangled or cannot feed freely, a flow adjustment will not address that physical obstruction. Once the path and nozzle are checked, investigate settings that fit your printer, hotend, and filament profile.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhy did the layers shift sideways?
A layer shift is a positional misalignment, commonly involving abnormal X- or Y-axis movement. Check the axis path for obstructions, then inspect belts and pulleys using the printer maker’s procedure. Speed, skipped steps, nozzle collisions, and a warped part can also contribute. Prusa’s belt-adjustment guidance is specific to its models and machine conditions; do not transfer its values or procedures to a different printer.

Consider when the shift occurred. A collision with a lifted or warped area may be part of an adhesion problem, while an obstruction or motion-system issue may call for a hardware check. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your own printer before adjusting belts or pulleys.
