If rows or table content are clipped at PDF page boundaries, first identify the renderer and version that generated the file. For rows that fit in the printable area, try break-inside: avoid in print CSS, retain a semantic <thead> for repeating headings, and verify the result in the exact production runtime. No break rule can keep an oversized row intact on one page.
1. Identify the renderer and confirm its print mode
Pagination depends on the PDF engine, its version, the document, and its print settings. A browser print dialog, Puppeteer/Chromium, and older wkhtmltopdf builds may behave differently. Historical wkhtmltopdf reports illustrate particular version-specific row-splitting problems; they do not establish how every current build behaves. See the reports for wkhtmltopdf issue 2099 and issue 2141.
Record the engine and version used in production, then check whether PDF generation uses print media. Puppeteer’s page.pdf() uses print CSS by default; if the workflow is intended to render screen CSS instead, its documentation says to emulate screen media before generating the PDF. 2. Keep rows together when they can fit
Use print styles to discourage a page break within a row. The legacy page-break-inside alias may also be useful for older workflows. These rules are not a guarantee that every renderer will paginate every table identically, so inspect generated output.

}Apply the rule selectively to table rows or suitable containers. It can help when the complete row fits in the remaining or next printable page area. If a row is taller than the usable page, the renderer cannot keep it intact on one page: shorten or restructure its content, or accept a controlled split. The W3C CSS Print Profile describes page-break avoidance and the behavior of elements longer than a page.
3. Preserve table semantics and repeating headings
Use actual table markup rather than replacing table sections with generic containers. Mark the column headings with <thead> and data rows with <tbody>:

4. Check page geometry and difficult cell content
A row that appears cut off may be affected by more than its break rule. Review the PDF page setup and the contents that determine row height:

- Cell padding and font size, which can make a row exceed the available space.
- Long unbreakable strings and large images, which can force wide or tall cells.
rowspanand other complex table structures, whose pagination behavior can vary by implementation.
The W3C’s CSS 2.2 Paged Media specification notes that content can be cut at page boundaries under some paged-media conditions. Renderer-specific pagination documentation also illustrates why complex cases need testing in the selected engine; see sghtmltopdf pagination documentation.
5. Test the PDF in the production runtime
A standards rule is a useful starting point, not proof that a particular converter produces the intended file. Generate and inspect PDFs using the same renderer version and settings as production. Include short rows, long rows, rows near page boundaries, tables spanning multiple pages, and the rowspan or colspan patterns present in your documents.

6. Troubleshoot common symptoms

7. Choosing a renderer
There is no established universal ranking of PDF engines for table pagination. Compare the exact versions and HTML structures your project needs, including row-level break avoidance, oversized cells, rowspans, repeated headings, media selection, and page-size and margin controls. Historical issue reports and renderer documentation can guide investigation, but your production output is the deciding test.
