Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWait for the page’s fonts after its content is ready, then verify that the specific font you expect actually loaded. A visible element only confirms a DOM and visibility condition; it does not establish that a remote web font has finished loading. Capture only after the relevant application render step and font readiness.
Why a visible element can still use a fallback font
chromedp’s node readiness and visibility waits concern DOM query results and node visibility. They are not documented as waits for web fonts. A page may show its target element while a remote font is still loading—or after the browser has failed to fetch it—so an early screenshot can show fallback typography. The screenshot records the browser’s rendered state at capture time.

A chromedp issue opened on May 29, 2024, describes a page declaring Roboto through a remote @font-face URL and capturing a visible element. The report lists chromedp v0.9.5, Chrome 122.0.6261.111, and Go 1.22.2, but does not state a diagnosis or resolution. It therefore does not establish that chromedp itself caused the missing font: issue #1474.
Wait for the relevant content, then font readiness
After navigation, wait for the application-specific condition that means the text to be captured exists. Then await the browser’s document.fonts.ready promise before taking the screenshot. For example, if the page adds report content after an asynchronous render, wait for that render condition rather than assuming that the first visible container is complete.

The wait shown here uses a bounded context so navigation, rendering, or font loading that never reaches the required state returns an error instead of hanging indefinitely. Replace #report with a selector and render condition that fit the page. The snippet is a practical pattern, not a guarantee that every site or font-loading failure is handled by one universal wait.
document.fonts.ready resolves when the document’s font loading and associated layout operations have settled. It does not prove that a particular requested face fetched successfully or that the page’s CSS selected it. Check the face separately when the screenshot still looks wrong.

Check whether the intended font loaded
After the content and font readiness waits, query document.fonts.check() using the CSS font shorthand and representative text that should use the face. For example, for a page expected to render text in Roboto:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsvar robotoLoaded bool
err := chromedp.Run(ctx,
chromedp.Evaluate(`document.fonts.check('16px Roboto', 'Report text')`, &robotoLoaded),
)
if err != nil {
return err
}
if !robotoLoaded {
// Inspect the font request, CSS font declarations, and browser diagnostics.
}
Use the actual family name, weight/style shorthand, and text relevant to the element. A successful check is a useful confirmation for that query, not proof that every element on the page uses the expected face. If it returns false—or the rendered result still appears to be a fallback—inspect the page’s computed styles and browser network and console diagnostics.

Debug a font that still does not appear
Once the page has reached its intended content state and font readiness has settled, treat a remaining fallback as a loading or font-selection problem to investigate, rather than adding an arbitrary delay.
- Confirm the page actually requests the face. Inspect the applicable stylesheet and
@font-facedeclaration, including the family and weight/style used by the target element. - Inspect the font request. In browser network diagnostics, check whether the font URL was requested and whether it returned successfully. A failed or inaccessible resource can leave the browser using a fallback.
- Check cross-origin behavior and access. If the font is hosted on another origin, inspect the response and browser console for access or policy errors. These are diagnostic possibilities, not a confirmed cause in issue #1474.
- Verify the selected style. A stylesheet can load while the target element requests a different family, weight, or style than the declared face provides. Compare the element’s computed font settings with the face declaration.
- Re-check after application changes. If the app replaces text or changes classes after the first render, wait for that application-specific change, then await font readiness and check the desired face again before capturing.
chromedp drives Chrome or Chromium through the DevTools Protocol. Its project guidance favors waiting for the required page state rather than relying on fixed sleeps. A fixed delay can be too short on a slow request and waste time when the page is already ready. Network-idle can be a supplemental signal on suitable pages, but long-lived requests or delayed client rendering mean it is not, by itself, proof that the target font loaded. See the chromedp project site and package API documentation.

Choose the right wait for each condition
| Signal | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Element presence or visibility | The queried DOM node is present or visible under the relevant chromedp wait. | That asynchronous page content is finished or web fonts loaded. |
| Application-specific render condition | The page has reached the content state your application defines as ready. | That a particular font request succeeded. |
document.fonts.ready |
The document’s font-loading and related layout operations have settled. | That the intended face fetched successfully or is selected for the target element. |
document.fonts.check() |
Whether the queried font shorthand and text pass the browser’s font availability check. | That all page elements use the intended font or that every visual detail is correct. |
Or skip the browser setup
If you need an API screenshot rather than a chromedp workflow, ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot or PDF with one GET request. For a screenshot of a page that has finished rendering its intended font, a basic cURL request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Common failures and fixes
- The wait times out. Check whether navigation or the target selector is wrong, whether the app reaches its expected render state, and whether font requests are stalled. Keep the context deadline bounded and surface the chromedp error to identify which action failed.
- The wait succeeds but the screenshot still uses a fallback. Font readiness is not a success check for a specific face. Evaluate
document.fonts.check(), then inspect the requested font URL, response, CSS declaration, computed style, and browser console. - The font check succeeds but typography looks different. Confirm that the element requests the intended family, weight, and style, and that the page has not changed its text or classes after your readiness checks. A check for one shorthand and text does not certify every element.
- A sleep seems to fix it only sometimes. Replace timing guesses with the application’s render-complete condition followed by font readiness. Network timing varies, so a fixed delay is not a reliable font-loading signal.
