A reboot stops processes that were started in an SSH session or as one-off background jobs; they do not come back unless a boot-enabled service or other supervisor starts them again. First identify whether your VPS publishes an encoder feed to YouTube or pulls/plays a YouTube playlist. Those are different workflows, and the right fix depends on which one you run.
First identify what your VPS is doing
“YouTube playlist stream” can describe two opposite directions of traffic. A VPS may send video from an encoder to YouTube Live, or it may pull/play a YouTube stream or playlist. A reconnect setting for a player does not fix a service that never starts at boot, and YouTube’s stream-key guidance applies to an encoder publishing to YouTube, not to a VPS pulling video.

- Publishing: an encoder on the VPS sends video to YouTube Live using a stream key or another supported integration.
- Pulling or playing: a client such as Streamlink retrieves a stream for playback or relay. YouTube is the source rather than the destination.
Before changing settings, record the exact launch command, process and service name, Linux distribution, client version, error text, and time of the failure. Check whether the process is still running after reboot and whether the error appears locally or in YouTube Live Control Room. The VPS being in Mumbai identifies its location; it does not by itself establish a Mumbai-specific outage, routing issue, or regional restriction.
Make the process start at boot
Why an SSH-launched process disappears
A command started interactively in an SSH shell, terminal multiplexer, or one-off background job is not a boot-time startup configuration. When the VPS reboots, the operating system ends those processes. Use a persistent service manager or equivalent supervisor to launch the command at boot, then check that the service is enabled and inspect its logs. A restart-on-failure policy can bring back a process that crashes while the system is running, but it does not by itself make the service start at boot.

Configure and verify the service safely
For a systemd-based VPS, the exact unit depends on your command, Linux distribution, user account, working directory, executable paths, environment, and how credentials are stored. Do not copy a generic unit without adapting those details, especially if it contains a stream key or other secret.
- Identify the exact command that works when run manually, including its required arguments and environment.
- Create or update a service for that command using the VPS distribution’s service-management conventions. Configure it to start during boot and, if appropriate, to restart after an unexpected process failure.
- Reload the service manager’s configuration, enable the service for boot, and start it through the service manager.
- Check the service’s status and logs. Confirm that the command, account, file paths, permissions, and credentials are available to the service—not just to your interactive SSH account.
- During a controlled maintenance window, reboot the VPS and verify that the service starts and reaches the expected state. Do not infer success from an enabled flag alone; inspect the post-boot status and logs.
With systemd, systemctl status your-service-name shows the current service state, while journalctl -u your-service-name -b displays that service’s logs for the current boot. Replace your-service-name with the actual unit name. The systemd project’s “Running Services After the Network is Up” guidance explains the distinction between boot ordering and usable network connectivity.

Handle network readiness and transient failures
A service can start successfully as a process and still fail to connect because the network is not ready yet. Systemd’s network.target is not a promise that the VPS has working internet access. The systemd project describes network-online.target as a way to delay dependent services until the network manager considers networking sufficiently configured. Its meaning depends on the network manager and on having the corresponding wait-online service enabled.
- If your client cannot retry failed connections, consider having the service wait for network readiness, after confirming that the VPS has the correct wait-online integration.
- Prefer application-level retries for temporary DNS, connection, or remote-service failures when the client supports them. Waiting for network readiness can add boot delay and still cannot guarantee that YouTube or a particular DNS endpoint is reachable.
- Check the logs for whether the service failed before connecting, connected and then exited, or remained running but could not reconnect. These point to different causes.
The systemd project’s guidance emphasizes that well-written software should respond to changing network configuration. In practice, a boot dependency and a client that retries are complementary safeguards, not substitutes for one another.

If the VPS publishes an encoder feed to YouTube
Check both sides of the connection: the encoder’s service logs and the stream’s status or error in YouTube Live Control Room. A process can be running locally while YouTube rejects or fails to receive its feed.
- Use the encoder’s logs to establish whether it starts after reboot and whether it reaches the connection stage.
- Review YouTube Live Control Room for a stream-health warning or an explicit startup error.
- If a third-party encoder reports a startup error, YouTube Help advises obtaining a current stream key from Live Control Room and updating the encoder. Do this when the error points to a key or startup problem; do not rotate a working key without evidence.
- If you sign in through third-party streaming software rather than using a stream key, follow that software’s support guidance, as YouTube directs users in that situation.
Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation describes DASH as an HTTP segment-delivery protocol for live streams. That is background for encoder integrations; it is not evidence that your VPS uses DASH. Identify the actual encoder and protocol from its configuration and logs rather than changing transport settings speculatively.

If the VPS pulls or plays the YouTube stream
Inspect the player or extractor version, source URL or playlist behavior, and the client’s logs. Confirm first that the command can still retrieve the intended source when run manually; a boot service cannot repair an outdated client, changed source behavior, or an application error.
Check reconnect behavior separately from startup
Streamlink documents --player-continuous-http as repeatedly opening a stream when the player requests it. It can help with disconnects when the player can reconnect to HTTP and is configured to repeat, but it does not create a boot-time service or ensure the client itself starts after reboot. Check the current option documentation and player compatibility for the installed Streamlink release before using a particular flag.

Check player compatibility
Streamlink’s player documentation states that VLC versions below 3 cannot play YouTube Live streams. Treat that as a specific compatibility check if your setup uses an older VLC version; it is not a general fix for playlist disconnections or boot startup.

Keep the service logs, application logs, and any YouTube error together with the reboot time. That evidence distinguishes a startup failure from a network race, a client that cannot reconnect, and a publishing error. The exact command, unit file, client, VPS provider, and error are not specified here, so no single cause can be established for every Mumbai VPS.
