A Shark robot may map inaccurately if it is moved during its initial mapping run, the run is interrupted, or obstacles interfere with navigation. Start by identifying whether the problem is the first map, the saved room layout, the robot’s route, or its return to the dock; then follow the instructions for your exact model. Shark’s procedures differ by model, so check the model number and its manual before changing app settings or attempting a reset.
First, identify what “not mapping” means
Different symptoms point to different checks. A map that is missing or unfinished is not the same issue as a robot that cleans unpredictably or cannot find its dock.

- No map or an incomplete map: Check whether your model requires an app-guided Explore Run and whether it finished.
- The map does not match the home: Check whether the robot or dock was moved during mapping, or whether the dock has since been relocated.
- The robot bumps into objects or struggles in one area: Look for obstacles and reflective objects, which some Shark navigation systems may bump into.
- The robot cleans but does not return to the dock: Check the dock’s position and, on models that use it, whether its location is saved on the map.
Find the model number on the robot or its documentation, then use Shark’s model-specific troubleshooting and support pages. The mapping steps and app behavior cited below apply to particular Shark models, not every robot in the range.

1. Complete the model’s initial mapping run
For the Shark Matrix 2-in-1 2400WD series, the manual describes an app-guided Explore Run that lets the robot travel through the home and identify walls, furniture, and obstacles while creating its initial map. The cited UK manual also describes an Explore Run as the initial mapping method. If your model offers this feature, start it in the SharkClean app and let it finish rather than treating the first run as an ordinary cleaning session.

- PERFECT FOR HOMES WITH PETS: With powerful vacuum suction, Shark’s self-cleaning brushroll, and HEPA filtration system the robot captures pet hair, dust, dander and allergens with ease.
Follow the charging instructions in your model’s manual before starting. For the 2400WD Matrix 2-in-1 family specifically, Shark says a full charge may take up to six hours so the robot can explore, map, and clean as much of the home as possible; that duration is not a specification for every Shark model. See the 2400WD Series instructions and the UK robot vacuum manual for their respective procedures.
2. Keep the robot and dock in place during mapping
Do not pick up or relocate the robot while it is exploring, and do not move the base during the initial run. Shark’s 2400WD manual warns that moving the robot can disrupt its intelligent cleaning path or prevent it from finding the dock. The UK manual says that moving the base during the first run affects mapping and that a relocated base requires remapping.

- SELF-EMPTYING & SELF-CLEANING BASE: The NeverTouch base self-empties debris into a 60- day capacity bagless bin, refills water for up to 30 days, and automatically washes and dries the mop after every clean for convenient, hands-free cleaning.
- PERFECT FOR HOMES WITH PETS: Advanced suction and sonic mopping removes pet hair, dirt, and dander, while HEPA filtration with Anti-Allergen Complete Seal helps trap dust and allergens for a fresher home.
- EDGE & CORNER CLEANING WITH EDGE DETECT: Blasts of air pull debris from edges and corners into the cleaning path, ensuring more thorough pickup along walls and tight spaces.
If you have already moved the dock, follow your model’s instructions to map again. The 2400WD manual’s specific warning is: “Avoid moving the dock. If it is relocated, the robot may not be able to find its way back to the dock. If the robot is relocated while in use, it may not be able to follow its intelligent cleaning path, or find its way back to the dock.”

3. Check for objects that interfere with navigation
Shark’s UK manual says the navigation system may bump into reflective objects, including glass cabinets, stainless-steel pet bowls, and chair legs. Clear small obstructions where practical. If a particular object or area repeatedly causes trouble, use an app no-go zone if your model supports it. The manual describes bumps around these objects; it does not establish that they necessarily cause a malformed map.

4. Check the saved dock location if docking is the problem
For the RV2620WDUK FAQ’s model family, Shark says the robot can return to its base using the app or the robot button if the base location is saved on the map. If the map exists but the robot cannot return, check that saved location and use the FAQ for your model: RV2620WDUK Series FAQs. Do not assume that other Shark models have the same app controls or saved-location behavior.

If the supported mapping run finishes but the map is still unavailable or inaccurate, consult the troubleshooting page for your exact model or contact Shark support before trying a factory reset or replacing parts.
