Choose Google Fitbit Air if you want a wrist-worn tracker focused on steps, calories, activity and app-based coaching. Choose Oura Ring 5 if a finger-worn ring and a stronger emphasis on sleep, readiness and stress insights better suit you. Neither product has a supported accuracy advantage over the other: the available official information does not establish which counts steps or calories, or tracks sleep stages or stress, more accurately.
The practical choice comes down to what you want to wear, which app and features you value, and the upfront and ongoing cost in your country.

Steps, calories and workouts: what each tracker offers
Fitbit Air
Google’s Store listing names steps, calories, distance, cardio load and readiness. Google’s May 7, 2026 announcement also describes automatic workout detection. Google separates basic tracking from some coaching and guidance: its Google Health Premium offering includes adaptive fitness plans, workouts and Google Health Coach features.
Oura Ring 5
Oura presents activity and movement as part of a broader set of insights, alongside readiness and sleep. The product information describes movement tracking, but the available official material does not provide a directly comparable list of step- and calorie-counting performance against Fitbit Air.

If step and calorie readouts are the main reason for buying, compare how each app presents those metrics and whether its broader feature mix appeals to you. The supplied official product information does not establish which device’s estimates are more accurate, so neither should be bought on an assumed accuracy win.

Sleep and stress: compare the insights, not an unproven accuracy claim
Sleep
Google lists Fitbit Air sleep score, schedule, duration and stages, and describes sleep insights through Google Health. Oura puts sleep and rest at the center of its product categories and connects them with readiness. These are different presentations of overlapping sleep tracking; the sources available for this comparison do not validate either product’s sleep-stage accuracy against the other.

- Lighter gets mightier with the Google Fitbit Air Special Edition Stephen Curry[1]; including a water resistant coating, it's sweatproof and moisture-wicking for your toughest workouts[2,3]

Stress and wider health tracking
Oura explicitly lists daytime stress and resilience, as well as heart-health and women’s-health insights. Fitbit Air’s marketed health measures include heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV, SpO2 and sleep information; Google’s announcement also mentions heart-rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts. These feature labels are not interchangeable, and they do not mean either tracker can diagnose a health condition.
Pick Oura if stress and resilience insights are a priority in the product’s stated focus. Pick Fitbit Air if its listed activity metrics and Google’s coaching ecosystem matter more. Neither choice is supported as the more accurate stress tracker.

Price, membership and the cost beyond the device
Prices below are not like-for-like local checkout comparisons. Google announced US pricing for Fitbit Air; the Google Store page retrieved on October 4, 2026 resolved to India and showed a separate Indian listing. Oura’s page showed a US-facing Silver price.
| Cost item | Fitbit Air | Oura Ring 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised device price | US$99 standard or US$129 Special Edition, as announced by Google on May 7, 2026. A Google Store India page accessed October 4, 2026 displayed ₹13,999. | US$399 for Silver on Oura’s US-facing product page accessed October 4, 2026. |
| Subscription information | Google Health Premium plans start at US$9.99 per month or US$99 per year, according to Google in 2026. Google announced a three-month Premium trial with Fitbit Air. | Oura says membership unlocks personalized insights, an AI companion and new features. The exact Ring 5 membership price and the precise free-versus-paid feature split were not established in the product information consulted. |
| Accessories and fit | Google says accessory bands are sold separately. | Oura recommends using a sizing kit; a size-specific standard charger is included. |
For Fitbit Air, distinguish the advertised device price from ongoing Premium plans, and check which coaching features you actually want. For Oura Ring 5, confirm membership terms and local checkout pricing for your country before calculating long-term cost; the available information does not establish a directly comparable subscription total.

Battery, fit and everyday wear
Battery estimates
Google advertises up to one week of Fitbit Air battery life. Oura advertises 6–9 days for Ring 5, depending on ring size and usage. These are manufacturer estimates, not results from a standardized comparison, so they do not show which lasts longer under the same conditions.
Choosing between a wrist band and a ring
Comfort is personal: Fitbit Air stays on the wrist, while Oura Ring 5 is worn on a finger. Consider what you prefer to wear while working, exercising and sleeping. Ring sizing deserves particular care; Oura recommends its sizing kit rather than relying only on ordinary ring-size assumptions. Fitbit Air’s bands are separate accessories, so check band options if the supplied fit or style is a concern.
Apps, phone support and integrations
Google Health
Google describes Google Health as the successor to the Fitbit app, and Fitbit Air pairs with Google Health. The announced Premium features include Google Health Coach, adaptive fitness plans, detailed sleep insights, proactive insights, workouts and mindfulness sessions. Google says the Air works with most Android 11+ and iOS 16.4+ phones and requires a Google account and Google Health app; check your device and app-store listing before buying.

Oura’s partner-integration documentation, updated October 1, 2026, names direct integrations including CorePower Yoga, Strava, The Sculpt Society, Cronometer and Zero Intermittent Fasting. Oura also says data can sync with hundreds of apps through Apple Health and Android Health Connect, including Flo and MyFitnessPal. Some direct integrations require an active Oura membership. The Oura app is available on iOS and Android, but the product page consulted did not specify minimum operating-system versions.
Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
- Choose Fitbit Air if you prefer a wrist-worn tracker, prioritize steps, calories, distance and workout-related tracking, or want Google’s app-based coaching options. Check Premium terms if those paid features are part of your decision.
- Choose Oura Ring 5 if you prefer a ring and place more weight on sleep, readiness, stress and resilience, or value its wider health categories and app integrations. Use the sizing kit recommendation and verify membership terms for your country.
- Choose neither on accuracy claims alone. The official material available for this comparison does not establish a winner for steps, calorie estimates, sleep stages or stress tracking.
