That is a difference in features and insight depth, not proof that Oura measures sleep or stress more accurately. A five-month comparison published by Tom’s Guide on October 4, 2026, favored Oura for sleep-insight depth and called stress and recovery close, but it was one reviewer’s experience—not a controlled accuracy test.

Which is better for sleep tracking?
Oura has the edge for insight depth in the October 4, 2026 Tom’s Guide comparison. The reviewer reported that both products provide a sleep score, stage breakdown, and tips, but found Oura’s analysis went further; the article said comparable Fitbit depth requires Google Health membership. Google lists sleep stages and duration for Air, while personalized sleep insights and coaching are Premium features. Oura lists detailed sleep analysis among Ring 5 membership features.
That verdict is about the depth and presentation of the insights, not measurement accuracy. Neither the product documentation nor that review establishes that one device’s sleep stages or scores are more accurate against a sleep-lab reference. If your priority is seeing richer analysis, Oura is the better fit based on the published comparison; if basic sleep stages and duration are enough, Fitbit Air may cover what you need at a lower upfront price.

Does Fitbit Air track stress, and how does it compare with Oura?
Fitbit Air records HRV, a physiological metric that can contribute to recovery or stress-related insights. The comparison also describes Google’s paid AI coach as using sleep, exertion, and recovery data. Oura, by contrast, specifically documents a feature called Daytime Stress. That makes Oura’s stress feature more clearly defined in the available product documentation, but it does not establish that its stress estimates are more accurate than Fitbit’s.
What Oura’s Daytime Stress score means
Oura says Daytime Stress uses heart rate, heart-rate variability, motion, and average body temperature, interpreted against a personal baseline that can be recalibrated. The graph updates every 15 minutes when a wearer is awake, wearing the ring, and relatively inactive. Oura says results begin after at least five days of continuous day-and-night wear.

Oura cautions that the score may not match a person’s feelings and cannot identify the cause of a physiological response. Exercise, illness, sleep loss, stimulants, and other physical factors can affect it. As Oura Member Care puts it: “Your Daytime Stress score reflects your body’s physiological response, which may not always match how you feel.” Treat app-reported associations as possible context, not proof of a cause or a direct reading of emotion.

Do either tracker diagnose stress or sleep disorders?
No diagnostic claim is established by the product feature descriptions covered here. Their scores and trends are wellness estimates, not diagnoses of stress, sleep disorders, or their causes. If a health concern is persistent, use the tracker as a source of observations to discuss with a qualified clinician rather than relying on an app score.
