It suggests using an Eclipse Totem and fishing at Gloomy Crevice with a high-disturbance rod to improve the chance of a huntfish spawn, but says this does not guarantee Monstrous Cusk. Catching Faceless Cusk in the area is also reported to contribute to awakening it.

How to complete the Monstrous Cusk harpoon catch
- Equip a Harpoon Gun and aim at the head. Keep firing at the head to draw Monstrous Cusk out of Gloomy Crevice. The guide says body or flank hits do not hook it.
- Follow it into open water in The Deep. Stay with the fish as it leaves the crevice.
- Position above its head. Keep enough distance to avoid taking damage.
- Shoot the head again. The guide says a successful second head shot hooks the fish and starts the harpoon minigame.
- Click the white “PULL!” target rings. Click as the reticle crosses each ring. The guide warns that missing valid pulses slows progress and can break the line.
- Continue until the progress bar fills. The catch banner indicates success. If the fish gets away, find it and try another head shot.
Rings and buttons to avoid
The guide warns not to click the dark pull button: it reports a 30% chance for this button to appear and says clicking it removes 25% of current progress. It also describes purple and red trap rings; purple traps reduce pull power, and traps may overlap valid targets. Treat these exact minigame figures and effects as claims from the September 21, 2026 secondary guide rather than verified official game data.
Reported rewards and the Cusk Purger
The same guide lists a catch reward of 22,000 XP and a sale rate of C$3.46 per kilogram. It gives one observed fish weighing 10,123.9 kg, but identifies that as an individual result—not a minimum, average, or guaranteed weight. It also reports that Monstrous Cusk Tooth is a rare drop used to craft the Cusk Purger rod; catching the fish does not guarantee the tooth.
