To reset a saved Wi-Fi connection on a Fire TV Stick, forget the network and reconnect: open Settings > Network, highlight the saved network, press Menu, then press Select or OK to forget it. Select the network again and enter its password. This removes the saved connection; it does not reset the Fire TV Stick to factory settings.
Before you change the saved connection
Confirm the Wi-Fi network is available to another device, and have the network name (SSID) and password ready. Forgetting the network means you will need to enter its password again. It does not change your router’s credentials or your Amazon account settings. Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting instructions describe forgetting and reconnecting as a troubleshooting step.

How to forget and reconnect to Wi-Fi
- Open the network settings: From the Fire TV home screen, go to Settings > Network.
- Forget the saved network: Highlight the network you use, press the remote’s Menu button, then press Select or OK when prompted to forget it.
- Reconnect: Select the same network from the list and enter its Wi-Fi password.
Remote labels and menu wording can vary by Fire TV model and software version. If the network is not listed, first confirm it is available to another device, then continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
Diagnose where the connection is failing
Fire TV’s Network Status tool can help distinguish a connection problem between the Fire TV and router from one between the router and the internet. If an Unable to Connect screen appears, choose Network Diagnostics. Otherwise, open Settings > Network, highlight the network and press Play/Pause on the remote on supported devices. The tool may show recommendations; some compatible devices also display download speed, advanced details such as data usage, or a repeatable speed test. Availability depends on the device. See Amazon’s Fire TV Network Status Tool guidance.

Try these steps before a factory reset
Follow these steps in order. Amazon lists a factory reset only after network diagnostics, restarts, forgetting and reconnecting, and restarting the modem and router.
- Restart the Fire TV: Disconnect its power, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect it. This is the interval in Amazon’s general Wi-Fi troubleshooting instructions; it is not a guarantee that every device will reconnect within a set time.
- Toggle Wi-Fi: Go to Settings > Network, select Wi-Fi, turn it off, then turn it back on.
- Forget and reconnect: Use the steps above to remove the saved network and join it again with the password.
- Restart the modem and router: Unplug both and wait one minute. Reconnect the modem first and wait about a minute for internet connectivity, then reconnect the router and wait about a minute. Actual startup times vary by equipment and provider.
- Consider a factory reset only if the earlier steps fail: A factory reset is separate from forgetting a Wi-Fi network and is a more extensive troubleshooting step. The exact procedure and consequences depend on the Fire TV model, so follow the instructions for your specific device rather than treating this network guide as a factory-reset procedure.

If you are connecting during Fire TV setup
Setup has a few distinct steps. If the network you want is missing from the list, press Back to refresh it. Amazon’s setup guidance says to restart the Fire TV and wait one minute, then restart the modem and router. If possible, move the Fire TV and router closer together. These are setup-specific instructions; the general Wi-Fi troubleshooting page gives a different, 10-second power-disconnect interval for restarting Fire TV.
If Wi-Fi still is not practical, Ethernet may be an option. Amazon notes that some Fire TV devices require an Ethernet adapter. Check the exact Fire TV model’s compatibility before selecting an adapter. For details, see Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps for Fire TV setup.

When the issue may be coverage or the router
If the Fire TV connects only when it is near the router, signal coverage may be the issue. Amazon suggests moving the devices closer. For broader coverage or performance problems, Amazon also mentions a capable Wi-Fi 6E-or-higher router or mesh routers for larger homes; these are optional network considerations, not requirements for forgetting and reconnecting to Wi-Fi.
Amazon’s guidance also suggests using the same SSID across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands so a Fire TV can choose based on signal strength. Router features and Fire TV compatibility vary, so check your equipment’s documentation before changing band settings. See Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
