Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor an occasional full-page screenshot, Firefox’s built-in Screenshots tool is the straightforward choice: it captures a full page, a visible area, a region, or a detected page element, then saves an image or copies it to the clipboard. Choose FireShot when you specifically need its documented PDF export, annotation and editing tools, or batch and multi-tab capture. This is a comparison of published documentation, not hands-on testing of capture quality or reliability.
Is Firefox Screenshots discontinued?
No. Mozilla clarified in January 2019 that “The Screenshots feature is not being removed from Firefox.” The change discussed at the time was the planned sunset of Mozilla’s standalone server for uploaded screenshots—not local capture, download, or clipboard copying. Mozilla’s current Help page still documents the feature and its local output options. Mozilla’s current screenshot instructions and the 2019 clarification describe the distinction.

Mozilla also reported historically that, during 2018, more than 20 million people used Screenshots to take nearly 180 million screenshots. Those are Mozilla-reported figures for that year, not current usage statistics.

How to capture a full webpage in Firefox
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Open Screenshots from the page context menu, or use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Mozilla Support documents these entry points.
- Choose the full-page capture option. To capture less, select the visible area, a region, or a page element highlighted as you move the pointer.
- Save the image to Firefox’s download location or copy it to the clipboard.
For developers, Firefox Developer Tools offer a separate route: enable the full-page screenshot button in DevTools settings, capture an element from the Inspector, or use the :screenshot console helper with options such as --fullpage, --selector, --delay, and --clipboard. These are Developer Tools features, not steps in the Screenshots interface. See Mozilla’s Developer Tools screenshot documentation.
When FireShot is the better fit
Consider FireShot if the work itself requires exporting PDFs, adding annotations or obscuring details, or capturing several tabs or a list of URLs. Those capabilities are described in the add-on listing and product materials; confirm that the specific feature is available in the FireShot distribution and edition you plan to use.

There is a version detail worth checking before installation: the Firefox Add-ons listing reports version 1.12.18, last updated June 5, 2023, and says FireShot v2 is being rolled out through the developer site. The listing’s version number therefore should not be assumed to describe every current distribution. Check the current listing and FireShot’s product site for the version and features offered where you install it.

The Firefox Add-ons listing says FireShot requires permission to communicate with programs outside Firefox, access downloads and download history, and access data for all websites. Clipboard input and browser-tab access are listed as optional permissions. Review the current permission prompts and privacy policy before installing; FireShot’s privacy statements are vendor claims, not an independent audit. The listing and its permissions are the place to verify the published details.

Privacy and offline use
Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the page URL or details of the captured image. Mozilla also documents settings for disabling that data collection. This describes Mozilla’s account of its own tool, not an independent privacy audit. Consult the current Help page for its explanation and settings.
The FireShot Firefox Add-ons listing says the extension can work offline. Treat that as a vendor listing claim rather than a guarantee for every workflow: a capture may still depend on the page being available in the browser, and features involving sharing or external services may have different requirements.
