If the problem occurs on just one page, the page may load content as you scroll or place it inside its own scrolling panel—content that a document-level screenshot may not capture. Test Firefox’s Troubleshoot Mode and hardware acceleration only to isolate possible browser-side causes; neither is a guaranteed fix.
Capture the page both ways to identify the problem
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows and Linux) or Command+Shift+S (macOS).
- Choose Save full page and inspect the result. Then repeat with Save visible.
- If needed, select a region and download or copy it. The available capture choices are described in Mozilla’s Take screenshots in Firefox guide (listed as last updated June 15, 2026).
If the visible screenshot is complete but the full-page version has a gap, investigate how the site scrolls and loads content before changing Firefox settings.

Check whether the blank strip is limited to one site
Capture an ordinary long webpage as a comparison. If only one site or application view has the problem, look for these page behaviors:

Scrolling that panel is different from scrolling the document; a full-page capture may not include the panel’s off-screen contents.
- A virtualized feed: Some feeds create items as you scroll and keep only part of the list loaded. A screenshot can include content already loaded without forcing every item to appear.
- Lazy-loaded content: Images or sections may appear only after you scroll near them. Check the page manually to see whether the missing area becomes populated.
- An iframe or application view: Content may be rendered within a separate embedded or application area rather than as ordinary document content.
Mozilla’s discussion in Bug 1810767 distinguishes document-level capture from inner scrolling regions and virtualized feeds. The result can therefore be a limitation of how that page presents content, not a universal Firefox screenshot failure.

Test Firefox’s browser-side settings as diagnostics
If the problem affects ordinary pages too, test whether it changes in Firefox Troubleshoot Mode. This mode can help isolate extension or theme effects; it is a diagnostic comparison, not a promise that a particular setting will repair the screenshot.
Hardware acceleration is also worth testing temporarily if you are diagnosing a broader capture issue. Change it only as a controlled test, restart Firefox if prompted, and compare the same page and capture option. Restore the original setting if the result does not improve or performance worsens.

Keep the historical evidence in perspective: a Mozilla Support thread describes a user’s Firefox 67 experience on Windows 10 in 2019, where disabling acceleration reportedly fixed that case (Mozilla Support: Screenshot enabled but does not capture full page). A separate report concerned incomplete captures with acceleration enabled in Firefox 77 (Bug 1643989). These reports show that acceleration was implicated in particular past cases; they do not establish it as the cause or a current universal fix for blank strips.
Capture nested or dynamically loaded content in sections
When the missing material lives inside its own scrolling area, scroll that area yourself and use Save visible or a selected-region capture for each section you need. For a virtual feed, scroll through it first so the items you need are loaded, then capture the visible sections. This is less convenient than one seamless image, but it works around the difference between document scrolling and nested or incremental page content.

An older discussion in Bug 1810767 mentioned an experimental preference, screenshots.browser.component.enabled, and adjustable selection handles. That discussion does not confirm the preference as available or appropriate in current Firefox. Do not treat it as a standard fix or edit about:config on the strength of that historical note alone.
Consider page height if the capture stops at a consistent point
A blank strip at one location on a normal page points to a different problem than a screenshot that consistently ends on an exceptionally tall document. Browser screenshot dimensions have constraints, but older Bugzilla comments report differing measurements under different tests and setups; they do not establish one maximum height for all Firefox versions and systems. If a very tall page is cut off or develops a gap at a consistent height, capture shorter regions or split the page into sections. Do not rely on a single pixel threshold as a universal Firefox limit.
