On Android, use the three-dot menu and Extensions. After installing an extension, review what it can access, decide whether it may run in private browsing, and learn how to disable or remove it.
Find and install extensions on desktop Firefox
- Open the Add-ons Manager: Open the Firefox menu and choose Extensions and Themes.
- Browse recommendations: In the Extensions area, look under Recommendations and select the install button for an extension you want. Recommendations may be personalized.
- Search the catalog: Choose Find more add-ons to open addons.mozilla.org, then search for an extension.
- Review the request: Read the access request shown during installation and consider whether it makes sense for the extension’s stated purpose. Confirm to install only if you understand and accept the requested access.
Extensions add or modify Firefox features; themes change the browser’s appearance. Mozilla also documents installing a signed add-on from a local file through the gear menu in the Add-ons Manager. This is an advanced installation route, not the usual way to find an extension.

Open an extension after installation
An installed extension may be pinned to the toolbar. Select the extensions button to open its panel, where available commands can include Pin to Toolbar, Manage Extension, Remove Extension, and Report Extension. Choose Manage extensions to open the Add-ons Manager. Panel contents and commands can vary by Firefox version and extension state; pinned or disabled extensions may not appear there.

Permission requests describe access to browser data or features. Read each request in context: access that is necessary for an extension’s function may still be more than you want to grant. A listing or permission screen is not proof that an extension is harmless. Install from a source you trust, and grant only access you understand.

Choose whether an extension can run in private browsing

Private-window access is a separate setting from ordinary extension permissions. Open the extension’s settings in the Add-ons Manager and check its private-browsing control.
