Firefox’s setting and layout can vary by version. Mozilla’s guidance recommends updating to Firefox 153 or later if the option is absent, or installing the Mozilla-developed Multi-Account Containers extension, which enables container functionality automatically.

Create containers and assign sites
Use the container manager to create a container with a name, color, and icon that make its purpose easy to recognize—for example, work, personal, or banking. You can manage containers through Firefox Settings; the Multi-Account Containers extension also provides a manager in its panel.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

To access a bookmark’s context-menu option, first allow the extension access to bookmarks and enable its bookmark-menu preference.
The extension can sync container names and site assignments across devices signed in to a Mozilla account. This does not mean that every browsing detail or website session is synced.
Why the container setting may be unavailable
-
The setting is missing: Firefox’s setting is not present in every version. Mozilla recommends Firefox 153 or later, or installing the Multi-Account Containers extension.
-
You are in a Private Browsing window: Containers are disabled there. Switch to a regular window.

Each container keeps website data separate from other containers. That separation can let you use different accounts on the same site in separate tabs. It is a way to organize browsing and separate site data, not a tool for hiding your identity from a website or network.
Your IP address and device characteristics, including operating system and device manufacturer, remain visible across containers. Container tabs are not a VPN and do not, by themselves, conceal those details.

Firefox’s built-in container tabs are useful when you want to choose a container manually as you browse. The Multi-Account Containers extension adds management and site-assignment capabilities, along with syncing of container names and site assignments across devices signed in to a Mozilla account.
Mozilla also documents an optional integration between the extension and Mozilla VPN. That is an additional service, not part of the core container separation feature. Mozilla says the integration works only with non-sandbox Firefox installations; Snap and Flatpak are examples of sandbox installation methods. Availability of the integration does not change what container tabs themselves protect.
