Firebase Hosting is aimed mainly at static sites and single-page apps, while Firebase App Hosting is the Firebase option for full-stack web applications. Compare the specific service, workflow and billing model you need—not just the names.
What are you comparing?
“Firebase” can mean more than one hosting product. Firebase Hosting serves static content and single-page applications; dynamic features can be added with Cloud Functions or Cloud Run. Firebase App Hosting is the more direct Firebase comparison for a full-stack app: Google describes support for static generation, client-side rendering and server-side rendering, including automatic configuration detection for Next.js and Angular.

Which option fits your application?
Choose Firebase Hosting for static sites and SPAs
For a static site or client-rendered single-page application, Firebase Hosting provides a global CDN, custom domains and SSL certificates. It also supports preview channels and CLI deployment, and can be combined with Cloud Functions or Cloud Run when the site needs dynamic behavior. Firebase documents integrations with Firestore, Realtime Database, Authentication and Cloud Messaging. See Google’s Firebase Hosting overview.
Consider Firebase App Hosting for a full-stack web app
If your framework needs server-side rendering or you want a full-stack deployment workflow, evaluate Firebase App Hosting rather than treating Firebase Hosting alone as equivalent. App Hosting supports static generation, client-side rendering and server-side rendering; its documentation describes GitHub-connected builds and rollouts, Google Cloud infrastructure, and Secret Manager integration. See Firebase App Hosting.

Compare the practical trade-offs
| Decision | Firebase Hosting | Firebase App Hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Typical fit | Static websites and single-page applications | Full-stack web applications |
| Rendering and dynamic behavior | Static and SPA hosting; add Cloud Functions or Cloud Run for dynamic content | Static generation, client-side rendering and server-side rendering |
| Database and backend | Integrates with Firestore, Realtime Database, Authentication, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging | Runs on Google Cloud infrastructure; use the Firebase and Google Cloud services your app requires |
| Deployment workflow | CLI, emulation and preview channels | GitHub-connected builds and rollouts |
| Delivery and domains | Global CDN, custom domains and SSL certificates | See App Hosting documentation for deployment details |
The table reflects vendor descriptions, not a controlled comparison of performance, uptime or ease of use. Select by framework support and the deployment workflow your team will actually maintain. Compare the Firebase or Google Cloud data services you would configure; neither database approach is universally better.
How do the costs compare?
Firebase Hosting: free allowance, then usage charges
Google’s Firebase Hosting pricing documentation, inspected in 2026, lists up to 10 GB of Hosting storage and 10 GB per month of data transfer at no cost. On the Blaze plan, additional storage is $0.026 per GB and additional transfer is $0.15 per GB that month. Both measures apply at the project level. These Hosting figures do not include other Firebase services, such as database or Cloud Storage use. Check the current Firebase Hosting quotas and pricing before budgeting.
Firebase recommends budget alerts, but alerts do not cap usage or charges. Google also warns that a site that reaches its transfer allowance without upgrading can be disabled after a grace period until the next month. That makes traffic forecasting and a plan for overages or interruption part of the decision, not an afterthought.

A usage-metered service’s price is not a universal monthly figure. To estimate your real cost, define expected traffic and transfer, stored files, runtime needs, database use, required Firebase services and region. The published pricing pages do not establish which option costs less for a particular workload.

How to make the decision
- Identify your rendering model. For a static site or SPA, start with Firebase Hosting. For server rendering or a full-stack framework deployment on Firebase, assess Firebase App Hosting.
- Map your backend. Decide whether your application needs Firebase services such as Firestore and Authentication, or another backend integration. Include the services and operations your app will actually use in the cost estimate.
- Choose the deployment workflow. Check whether you want Firebase Hosting’s CLI and preview channels or App Hosting’s GitHub-connected build and rollout flow.
- Calculate the cost on the same horizon. Include Firebase Hosting storage and transfer plus the cost of other services. Use your region and realistic usage assumptions.
- Verify current product details before committing. Hosting features and usage charges can change; consult the official product and pricing pages linked above.
Does either platform perform better?
The published product and pricing information does not establish that either service is faster or more reliable, nor does it provide an apples-to-apples performance or workload-cost result. Performance depends on application architecture, configuration, geography and traffic. Treat any blanket claim that one is faster, more reliable or cheaper as unproven unless it is backed by measurements for a comparable workload.
