Choose a Fire TV Stick if you want a compact player that plugs into your TV and you’re happy to control it with an Alexa remote. Choose the Fire TV Cube if you want hands-free Alexa across the room, built-in Ethernet, or an HDMI input for compatible equipment such as a cable box or game console. The Cube’s extra connections make it a better fit for some living rooms, but there is no established independent test showing that it is universally faster in everyday use.

What changed in the Fire TV Stick lineup?
“Fire TV Stick” is a product family, not one fixed specification set. Amazon announced a new Fire TV Stick 4K in October 2026. It is not the same model as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023), which Amazon’s device specifications list separately. Check the model name and generation before comparing features or buying an older model; local stock can vary.

Fire TV Stick 4K (2026)
Amazon lists 8 GB of storage, a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and video output up to 2160p at 60 frames per second. Its listed HDR formats are HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. Amazon’s October 2026 announcement says this model gets customers to content “nearly 20–40% faster” than a similarly priced 4K streaming stick from another leading brand, with apps launching over 35% faster and content starting nearly 20% faster. Those are Amazon’s comparison claims, not independent lab results, and they do not establish that this Stick is faster than the Cube.

Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023)
This is a distinct 16 GB model with Wi-Fi 6E, according to Amazon’s device specification index. Do not assume that its storage, wireless features, or supported formats apply to the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K.

What the Fire TV Cube adds
The Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen, announced in 2022) is designed to sit near the TV rather than hang from its HDMI port. Its connection set includes HDMI 2.1 input and HDMI 2.1 output with ARC, USB 2.0, an IR extender, and built-in 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. Amazon lists 16 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6E, an octa-core CPU, and 4K output up to 60 frames per second.

The Cube’s HDMI input can accept compatible equipment such as a set-top box, game console, or webcam; its HDMI output connects to the television. This is an input for routing a device through the Cube, not a second output for another screen. Amazon describes it this way: “Connect compatible devices to the HDMI input port and easily go from streaming to your cable box, game console, or webcam.” Compatibility depends on the connected device.

Use hands-free Alexa without picking up a remote
The Cube supports far-field Alexa, so you can speak to it from across the room to control compatible equipment. A Stick’s voice control is through its Alexa remote; Amazon documents hands-free Stick control through a linked Echo device. If voice control without holding a remote is central to your setup, the Cube has that capability built in.

Picture and sound depend on the whole setup
The 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K supports HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. The Cube (3rd Gen) lists HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision, as well as Dolby Atmos-related codec support. Some premium Stick tiers may also offer Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos; those features should not be assumed for every Stick.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
A format on a device’s specification sheet is only useful if the streaming content and app support it and the TV and audio equipment can handle it. Check the exact Stick model and the capabilities of your display and sound system before paying extra for a format-specific upgrade. Is the Cube faster than a Fire TV Stick?
The available specifications do not settle that question for normal viewing. Amazon says the Cube’s octa-core processor is “2X more powerful than the Fire TV Stick 4K Max,” but that is a processor comparison against a specifically named Stick generation, not a measured comparison of app launches, navigation, or streaming between the Cube and every Stick. There is no suitable independent, controlled Stick-versus-Cube speed test established here, so choose based on setup and features rather than a categorical speed claim.

Which one fits your living room?
Choose a Fire TV Stick if
- You want a compact player that plugs into an available TV HDMI port.
- You are comfortable using the Alexa remote for voice commands.
- The features of the particular Stick generation you are considering meet your picture, sound, and wireless needs.
Choose a Fire TV Cube if
- You want built-in far-field Alexa control.
- You want to route compatible equipment through its HDMI input.
- Built-in Ethernet or the Cube’s tabletop placement suits your setup.
Check the exact model and local price
Amazon announced the 2026 Stick 4K as the lineup changed, while older Stick models may remain available depending on the market and retailer. Prices and availability vary by country and date, and sale prices can be temporary. Compare the live offer for the exact generations you are considering rather than treating one device as a permanent price winner.
